A/N: I’m not sure how to make this realistic, and I don’t think it is, but I think it’s fun anyway. There’s a tiny bit of spoiler in here, but NOTHING big, just kind of a “thinking about the future” type deal. This takes place right after OotP. A tiny bit of tangyness near the end, I hope that’s allowed here.
Cold showers only worked on men. Well, mostly.
During the summer holidays, Minerva would shower twice a day. She couldn’t stand to go to bed all sweaty, but she had to wash her hair every morning. So it was warm showers in the morning and cool (but not cold) showers at night. It had only been two days since
It wouldn’t have been so bad if she could spend her time in the dungeon avoiding everyone like Severus did. But no, she was above ground, and she had to spend half her day looking at the man who had her heart. It had been a while since his last conquest, over two years actually, which is odd for him. ‘It must be all of this. He’s back, and he doesn’t want to endanger anyone,’ she thought to herself.
She better than anyone knew what it was like to be lonely in times of war.

The next morning at breakfast in the staff dining room Albus stood up to make an announcement. “The ministry is currently adding extra protective wards within and without of the castle. I will be working with them for the next few days. It is asked that all of you stay here for at least a week, but you are free to leave for the summer next Monday. You will, of course, be expected to return on August the first for planning and staff time. Thank you.”
He took his seat again and started on his eggs and toast.
“My dear,” he whispered to the seat next to him. The rest of the staff was chatting and was not paying attention to the usual discussion between the headmaster and his deputy. “I was hoping to engage you in a chess match this afternoon. I will soon be leaving the castle and I do not know when I will return.”
“Did you locate one?” She knew what he was talking about, and didn’t want to risk being heard.
“I believe so. Will you meet me in my sitting room tonight at six? We can eat dinner while we play.”
“That sounds fine; I have some paperwork I need to finish today.” She finished the last of her dry cereal. “I’ll see you later, then.”
Minerva spent the morning and afternoon marking papers and compiling grades. Usually she would have gotten a head start on her times tables for next year, but she was behind from her time in St. Mungo’s. She didn’t get a head start last year either because of her work with the Order, but this year she wouldn’t have to worry about that.
After skipping lunch, she headed to Albus’ office hungry and a bit on edge. She had hoped that he would ask her to go with him when he went to go find the Horcrux. She wasn’t expecting it, but she hoped.
She reached his door, “Canary Creams,” she said. She followed the stairs up and knocked on the door.
“How many times must I tell you that you needn’t knock?” As he opened the door before she even finished.
“You know even after all of these years that I have enough manners to knock, even if you're standing right in front of the door waiting for me.”
“I just happened to be walking this way when I heard the door.”
“You just happened to walk by exactly at six o’clock when you knew I’d be coming up the steps?”
“Well, I may have been expecting you. Come, let us sit.” Albus had, of course, noticed that she did not eat lunch and had arranges quite a spread of food, from finger sandwiches to fruit to fish sticks.
“Oh haha,” she said as she threw one of the fish sticks at him. It got stuck in his beard and before she noticed it was flying back at her. She ducked just in time. “See, still have the reflexes. If there’s anything I can do to…”
“No. I’ve told you. I need you to recuperate this summer so you can take over as much as you can from me next year. I don’t know how much time I will be able spend here, and you are the only one to whom I can trust the school.”
“Yes, well, just move,” she answered as she picked up a small bit of chicken salad sandwich.
As the game progressed, Minerva couldn’t help but worry about the coming year. She didn’t know how she would function without Albus by her side everyday. She knew she could handle the responsibility of his job, but not without his support.
After playing for an hour and a half, Albus’ king dropped his sword and fell to defeat. “I told you I’d win.”
“Yes, yes. Well now I better get to bed, I have to be up before breakfast to help Kingsley over by the lake. I’ll never be able to wake up unless I go to sleep soon. Shall I walk you back to your rooms?”
“I think I can manage on my own. I’ll see you in the morning.” Minerva walked out his door and back to her own. As soon as she entered, she started stripping her robes off. Usually she would have at least put her clothes in her hamper but she was just too hot. She needed her shower desperately and couldn’t be bothered. By the time she got to her shower, her bra and panties were on the floor right below her, the bathroom door still open. She reached for the shower handle and turned it. Nothing happened.
She tried again. Again, nothing. Not knowing what to do, she walked back into her sitting room. As she approached her bed chambers, she heard a voice behind her.
“Minerva, are you…”Albus’ head popped back out of the fireplace right as she saw him.
“Oh my God!” she yelled to herself. She was still completely undressed, not a single barrier between her body and his eyes. She had no choice but to call him back, after, of course, getting her dressing gown.
She stuck her head into the fireplace and ended up looking into his office. “Is there something you needed, Albus?”
“Um, yes.” He was sitting behind his desk with his hands folded neatly in front of him. Usually he would have come and sat in the chair in front of the fireplace. He was also in his robe, but he obviously had at least something on underneath it. “I was, uh, just going tell you that some of the barrier spells have affected the water supply on this side of the castle. Everything in the basement and above this floor is fine. The staff bath is working if need be. Most of the staff quarters are out, so it’s not just you and me suffering.”
“Oh,” she said softly. “Well, thank you for telling me. I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Goodnight, again.”
Minerva pulled her flushed face from the fire. She had looked Albus straight in the eye even though he had seen what he saw. But that was not the pressing issue. “What am I supposed to about my shower?”
Night time showers were common and she was sure she’d run into other people in the general staff baths. Most go there to soak in the tub, or take a swim. She needed a cool shower on this night.
She thought. She could go to one of the common room bathrooms, but those were usually not in great shape. Even with the house elves, forty teenage girls shower there and it’s not ship shape.
“Aha. The prefects’ bathroom! She knew there were at least a few showers in there she could use, and none of the other teachers would go there! She had a plan at least. She grabbed her body wash and a few folded towels and headed for her shower.
***
She arrived shortly later and headed in. The portrait of the mermaid was currently sleeping. She walked over to the farthest corner shower and pulled the curtain open. To her surprise Albus was hanging his towel up on the hook, completely starkers. She ripped the curtain closed again and turned her back. Just as she was about to run out of the room she heard maniacal laughing.
“Albus, what the hell are you laughing at?!?”
“Hahaha. Well, I guess we’re even!”
She couldn’t help but smile just a bit. He was still behind the curtain, but she could see his shadow.
“I guess great minds think alike. Were you also avoiding the rush in the staff bath?” He asked as he stepped out of the changing area with his robe back on.
“Yes, I didn’t think anyone else would come here.”
“Well I do have some bad news. None of the other showers work. I turned this one on before you came in and it does. Would you like to go first?”
“No, you were here before me, it’s okay,” she said.
“Well, I have an idea, but you may not like it. Since we have so nicely seen each other in all our glory this evening, why don’t we both hop in together. It will be faster and I could always use help washing my hair. In return, I will be happy to wash yours.”
She first looked at him with incredulity. She could not believe that he would suggest such a thing. But then, the idea grew on her, and after only a moment she nodded. Isn’t this what she always wanted, and when else would she have such an opportunity?
“Excellent,” he said as he turned around and once again stripped off his robe. He went to fiddle with the faucet. “What temperature would you like?”
“Well, I usually take cool showers in the evening, if that’s okay,” as she answered him, she took her own robe off and hung it on its own hook. She looked at the stall and saw how small it was. She waved her hand and it grew in size, but only just a bit.
As they entered, Minerva took out her body wash and offered some to Albus. They washed themselves without touching much, only the occasional bump by accident. When they had both washed Albus reached for his shampoo.
“Could I borrow some of that? I don’t usually wash my hair at night.” She stopped; she did want him to do her hair. “But I need to tonight.”
“Well allow me to start then.” He put a quarter sized dollop of shampoo on his palm and began massaging it into her scalp.
She tried her best not to make any noises, but she couldn’t help but sigh when he had all of her hair on top of her head. It felt like every inch of her scalp was being touched and brought to life.
Albus felt a stirring below his waist and was glad that Minerva had her back to him. Her breathing became louder and Albus couldn’t help but touch her shoulders in response. When she moaned loudly, he kissed her neck. She pressed herself against him and felt his desire on the bottom of her back.
“Was this your plan the whole time?” she whispered, right before he gently reached around and touched her nipple.
“Plan? No. Fantasy, perhaps that’s a better way to describe it,” he said before he pushed her back against the wall and ravaged her mouth, his hands traveling below her waist and brushing against the center of her warmth.
Minerva’s back was cold against the tile of the shower wall, but she felt more alive than she had ever felt..

A few hours later the two of them were walking back to their rooms. Minerva turned to go down the corridor toward her rooms but Albus pulled her elbow toward him.
“Where do you think you are going?”
“Back to my rooms, don’t you need to get up early?”
“I might as well stay awake now, and I could certainly use your company to help me keep my eyes open. Would you care to join me?”
“Now, now, I have to get up for breakfast.”
“I think we can arrange something suitable that will not require you to get out of bed.”
“If that is the case, I suppose we can try another game of chess if you can keep your eyes open long enough to see me take you.”
“As long as you promise the same.”
“I promise to stay awake if you take me, but I may wish to close my eyes.” She demonstrated by shutting his eyes and groping for her.
“You’ll have to catch me first,” he said as he took off at a run toward his office.
She ran after him knowing she would catch him and that he would be hers.
