This is what I could come up with…
Minerva waited patiently as Albus paid the Weird Sisters for playing at the Yule Ball, though not her brand of music she had to admit they had done a fantastic job and the students seemed to enjoy them immensely. Albus seemed to be taking longer than was necessary, but Minerva attributed that to his affable personality. ‘Those poor girls,’ she thought, “he just needs to let them get home and rest.
“That’s right Professor July 1st, and these tickets will get you backstage.”
“Thank you. That gives me all spring to convince Professor McGonagall into going. Be sure to contact me if anything changes.” Professor Dumbledore smiled widely at the three band members as he thanked them one more time for appearing at Hogwarts, and assured them he and his Deputy would be in attendance on the first.
Walking back to Minerva, Albus looped her arm through his as he led her away from the Great Hall.
“No troubles, Albus?”
“No, my dear; we just had a nice chat. What did you think of their performance tonight?”
“Well their style of music is not particularly my taste, but I’m becoming accustomed to it. Between our students and Allison I daresay I’ll have actually committed a few songs to memory. I wish she could have been here. Did you enjoy the entertainment?”
“Oh yes, I thought they were quite splendid. Perhaps we should get her some tickets for an upcoming birthday, when is it again?”
“Honestly, Albus, June 30th.”
“She’s your sister’s daughter, Minerva. Besides I’m an old man, how am I supposed to remember every person’s birthday?” Albus’ eyes were twinkling madly as he gazed down on his lovely companion.
“She’s your niece too, or did you forget you happen to be married to me?” Minerva quirked her eyebrow and tilted her head to meet Albus’ eyes.
“Now that I remember! In fact I do hope you can spare a few extra minutes in the Astronomy Tower with your husband, I did not get to dance as much with you tonight as I would have wanted.”
Minerva sighed slightly, “If I must.” Chuckling Albus led Minerva up the stairs where soft music and floating candles awaited them.
“Oh Albus this is just lovely, and you’ve charmed it to stay warm.”
Albus took his wife in his arms, and whispered in her ear: “Ulterior motives I’m afraid. You know, sweep you off your feet and on to your back.” Swatting his arm Minerva just leaned into her husband.
At the beginning of June Albus was sitting in his office trying to think of an underhanded way to get Minerva to agree to go to the Weird Sisters concert. He had been trying for months to convince her to join him. At first she had suggested giving the tickets to Allison, but Albus had said she already had them. Then she argued they could go away for a vacation, which he said could start after the concert. Finally Minerva simply stated she did not wish to go, and he could go by himself if he wanted.
Albus’ eyes roamed his office before they landed on a chess board on one of his overstuffed bookshelves. He would simply ask her to place a bet on the board: whoever won had one wish to place upon the other which had to be compiled with. The wishes would not be divulged until the winner was declared, therefore not giving his wife the opportunity to skip playing. He knew he could win if he simply focused on the board, and not Minerva.
Once alone that evening Albus immediately began putting the plan into action. “My dear, how about a game of chess? The loser has to comply with the wish of the winner, but the wishes are not divulged until after the game is over. How does that sound?”
Minerva eyed her husband closely. He was up to something. Not to divulge the wish meant he already had one…thinking as he set up the board Minerva immediately knew what it was.
“Albus Dumbledore I will not play you so you can order me to go to that concert! No doubt you have charmed the board, and intend to cheat to insure your victory. Just because you have not mentioned it in a few weeks does not mean I have forgotten it.”
Albus’ beard could not hide the heat that seeped into cheeks. Turning around to face his wife his guilt was sketched over his face.
“Why is this concert so important to you?”
Albus’ mind quickly tried to come up with some story, and he changed his tactics. “I want to spend some time with you away from the castle. Each year we seem to be getting busier, and now with Voldemort’s return we will have even less. I want to take you out for the day. Is it so wrong to want to spend time with you?”
Minerva’s face softened. “Well, why not dinner or a boat ride or something.”
“The sisters gave me these tickets, and I thought a youthful outing would be good for both of us during these stressful days. A war always makes one feel old, or at least it makes me feel that way.”
Albus had to fight the grin that wanted to surface as he saw Minerva’s face soften completely. He knew he had her, and besides he wasn’t completely lying. Further he had been organizing this outing for months, and she just had to attend.
“Alright, Albus. I concede defeat.”
“You will have a great time, I promise.” He reassured her as he turned to finish setting up the chess board.
“Well if I don’t then you must go to the ballet with me.”
“Fair enough.”
July 1st arrived quickly for the two Professors, and Albus woke up nice and early due to his excitement. Unfortunately he was swamped with owls from the ministry, and various Order members so he was almost late in getting Minerva to the concert.
Quickly he led her backstage, and left Minerva to inquire after the Sisters.
“We are so glad you could make it tonight Professor,” Minerva was greeted by the guitar player as Albus arrived with the band.
“Thank you for giving us the tickets. Professor Dumbledore is very excited. I only wish I could have brought my niece, Allison. She loves your band, and she plays guitar.” Looking around Minerva missed the looks that passed between the band members and her husband.
“Perhaps we can meet her sometime. We need to go, we go on in a few minutes. If you stand stage left you should be able to see everything without anyone seeing you. Enjoy the show!”
Albus and Minerva moved to the spot the band had told them about, and before long the ladies were on stage. Minerva leaned back into her husband, and even found her foot tapping along to several songs. However half way through the show she got the shock of her life as the lead singer announced a special guest would play guitar for the next song.
Minerva’s head snapped up when she saw her ten year old niece walk out on the stage. Quickly she turned on Albus, “What is this? How did this happen?”
“This was the main reason I wanted you to go. I asked the girls to meet Allison, and hear her play. They thought she was quite good, and agreed to let her play with them during one of their shows. I knew you’d want to be here to see her.”
“Oh Albus, but what was all that about wanting to spend time with me and wanting to be youthful?” Minerva asked in false tones of anger. Albus shrugged sheepishly only to have Minerva kiss him soundly then abruptly end it as she turned around to watch her niece.
Albus smiled as he pulled his wife back into him, and thought happily now he wouldn't have to go to the ballet.
