Challenge 43 – Are You Listening?
Rating: Everyone
Summary: Minerva tries to get Albus’ attention.
Minerva stepped off the rotating staircase and into the headmaster’s office only to find it empty. She called out and received no answer; puzzled and slightly concerned, she approached the door to Albus’ private rooms. Eventually, Minerva began to hear the slightly tinny far away sounds of a struggle. She smiled and shook her head; she should have known Albus would be listening to the wireless now. Why he still listened to this particular program was beyond her, but the crazy old coot loved the action packed drama. Well, she thought, the school business couldn’t wait. Albus would just have to tear himself away from the superhero for two minutes.
Minerva opened the door to Albus’ sitting room and stepped inside, shaking her head at the sight of a grown man sitting on the edge of his seat, eyes shining with excitement, completely wrapped up in the story unfolding on the wireless.
“Albus.”
No response.
She stood directly in front of him. “Albus, I need you to sign these papers. They have to be mailed out this afternoon.”
“That’s fine, my dear. Whatever you like.”
Minerva rolled her eyes. “Albus!”
He grunted. “If you want.” He very obviously turned his attention back to the wireless.
Minerva sighed in exasperation and thought for a moment. “I’m quitting.”
No answer.
“The school is on fire.”
Suddenly the wireless made a lot of noise, Minerva waited until it had finished. Albus had still hardly acknowledged her presence in the room.
“Albus, I’m pregnant.”
Again, Albus made no response. Minerva waited a few more moments and then the program ended. Albus turned the wireless off and looked up at her with a smile.
“Hello, my dear! When did you get here?”
Minerva let out a growl of frustration and threw the letters at him as she turned on her heel and stormed out.
“What did I do?” Albus called after her.
The End
