Just wanted to see what everyone thought about this. I don't think it's been posted before. Apologies if it has.

I really don't know. Of course I do hope that he's still alive and I see plenty of odd things that could prove me right in HBP... However, JKR has said once that once she's killed someone, he or she won't come back to life. So however much I hope he'll do an 'Aslan' or a 'Gandalf' I think I'll just wait and see... and hope JKR doesn't get shot before the seventh book is finished

As much as I'd love to say no... I voted Yes because I do think he is *sigh* dead ! Hope JKR proves me wrong! Isabel

I am afraid he is gone.

I very much want him to be alive... He is my favourite character, after all. There's a definite part of me that insists that that much phoenix symbolism cannot be there for no reason. However I concur with Alesia and Ismaco...

Dead, alas, but not gone!
I do think Albus will make an appearance in the last book in the form of his portrait on the Headmaster's (Or headmistress', now I suppose!) office wall.

I said yes, because I'm a dork who can't let go. Isn't it sad? I'm emotionally attached to a character in a book.. Sigh.

I think he's dead, but that he'll still be a part of book 7. Communicating from beyond the grave, so to speak. Or I hope so, anyway...

It is a possibility that he's not dead, I mean he can create his own Horcrux. He did defeat Grindlewald, so he could use that to create one. Because he must have killed Grindlewald, otherwise he would not have defeated him. I almost cried when he died though, I was really sad, then I had an argument with my mum debating whether he was really dead.
There is my two cents.

I didn't even cry when he died... I cried when Minerva started blaming herself!

Sorry guys, but "dead as a doornail". I have a few reasons why: 1) JKR doesn't mess with death. Pure and simple. 2) From a literary sense, it needed to happen. Harry himself said it - with Dumbledore gone, he can finally take those last steps ALONE in defeating the Dark Lord. I just can't see Dumbledore popping back up when all is said an done, and going "ooops, my bad. Didn't mean to fool you guys but Harry needed to think I was a goner." I feel like that would cheapen the story? 3) The wizard with the long white beard always dies. lol! Having said that, I certainly don't think that this is the last we will hear from Dumbledore. theres the portrait remember? And I'm willing to bet that DD conveinently left a few select memories in that mysterious pensieve that may come in handy And I'm sure Aberforth Dumbledore will have some great little tidbits from the Headmaster himself....I think we need to make another trip down to the good ol' Hogs Head ;D Oh, and of course - Albus Dumbledore lives on right HERE on this board where people write these amazing stories about his life and love. Awwww.

Well, I'll accept Albus's death (although not in my fanfiction, usually)....
as long as he and Minerva were married! lol

Awwww. Yup yup I agree! But I must admit I was sad for ages! Me and Morgan cried forever *at least it seemed that way* BUT I'll never stop writing the stories! For as long as I write them AD is never dead! *shakes fist in the air* ;D However I'll will not show Mercy to that snake with hair in my stories!! Ever sense AD died I've wrote FIVE stories with him dieing by the hands of Harry, Minerva, and a select few other people.. He deserves it too!! *hmph* Ok thats my minnie rant for today! Buh bye, Megan or.. Thing One > < o

You know what? The darn "his Animagus is a phoenix" would've/should've worked! I mean, his coffin was even on fire (this refering to phoenixs being reborn from the ashes)... Poor Minerva.

I had to say maybe...because JK has said he's dead, but then again he's a lot like Gandalf and Aslan and they both came back. My dad say's he doesn't think he really died-we'll see.

I said no because I think that Albus has a plan for Harry and he is either coming back (his Headmaster picture hasn't woke up yet) or Harry will use his memories like they used other people's memories in book 6, or both...

physicaly, i think he has died. but as the quotes says:
"You will find that Dumbledore will only truly have left this school when none here are loyal to him."
or at least it's something like that

I, for one, never believed he was really dead. I believe that when he "begged" (as the book put it) for Snape to kill him, he was only doing it to save Draco from having to perform the Avada Kedavera curse and so that Snape could keep his promise to Narcissa. Also, he might've used a spell to make it appear that he was dead so Harry could do what was needed to be done. Also, if you'll note that J.K. Rowling never does anything without a reason, then I beg of you to note that Albus' familia is a pheonix, and a pheonix is reborn of the ashes. So Albus is coming back, my friends. Oh, yes, he's most certainly coming back. ~mmadlyinlove~
