That's almost not fair. :-) I think they are both great actresses, but every since I was younger I have thought of Julie Andrews as an idol, mainly because at one point in time I had delusions that I could be on Broadway. If I ever met her, I would probably freak out and start crying. I'm not saying she is better than Maggie though, but since you forced me to choose....
*wonders if it will let me vote again*

I totally agree ... That's so unfair ! Both of them are great and I so can't choose ... I absolutely adore both of them ...

Let's see... I've always adored Julie because I watched a lot of her movies as a child (Marry Poppins, etc.). However, I never knew Maggie Smith (as in her name and all) but I'd watched quite a few of her movies (Sister Act was one of my first!). When the the first Harry Potter film came out I was like, "She's the same person who's in the other movie.... and.... and..." ;D I read the credits to find out who she was. I was officially hooked.
In conclusion, *clears throat* (cough drop, Delores?) I voted for Maggie.

I adore Julie, as a child I was utterly addicted to Mary Poppins (Ok so I still love that film now.....) but not rated on acting as they are both fabulous actresses I would have to chose Maggie as I enjoy most of her films just slightly more the Julie's.

Oh dear oh dear oh dear, I didn't want to vote, but well, two hours later it seemed that I kept thinking, who is the best? Julie or Maggie? Very difficult question, if I may say so, so I'm going to vote now, in the hopes that I'll stop thinking about it, 'cause I have to study for my exams! So here's my decision: Julie Andrews! *starts to sing* But it's your heart of gold I love the best and that will be your crowning glory, your whole live through, the most glorious part of you! *Everybody together!* ;D

I am amazed that some of you find this difficult! Personally, there's no contest: Maggie all the way. I find Julie Andrews twee and annoying! How about a poll with a worthy rival for Maggie...like Judi Dench!

*growls at mugglemin* Julie is not annoying! She practicaly perfect in every way. *giggles and breaking into Your Crowning Glory with zoeteproet* I voted for Julie I've only seen The Sound of Music like 6000000000000000000000000000000 times. I love her to no end. Julie forever. I forgot who said it but if Amercia ever gets a queen is should be her.

I forgot who said it but if Amercia ever gets a queen is should be her. I think it was Larry Miller who said that, but I'm not completely sure ... I seem to remember that it was during one of the Special Features on one of the PD - DVDs ... And I totally agree ... ;D

Oh gods, that would be even worse. Talk about a real clash of the titans! Tehehe. Did anybody ever watch those Celebrity Deathmatch shows on Mtv? Sick and wrong, but hilarious. I just suddenly got a vision of Maggie in one corner and Judi in the other! :-P

Wow... Speaking of Julie, did anyone know that supercalifragilisticexpialidocious means "atoning for extreme and delicate beauty while still being highly educable." Hmm... found that on www.wikipedia.com

I voted for Maggie, based on the fact that I do enjoy Maggie's movies more than Julie's. I love them both as actresses though! It was a tough decision!

Ah man....I'm back again on this one, just because I've had perhaps a few too many glasses of wine, and I really can't bear to think of you all agonising over this one. I hope everyone realises that this is entirely tongue in cheek, and not meant to offend anyone...catwoman always seems to get what I'm harping on about anyway, but...
YOU'RE ALL MAD!!!!!!!!!!! (and I think your entirely rational MMADness is excluded from this!). There is absolutely NO CONTEST!! In the UK, Julie Andrews is seens as a sickly sweet, child-star type (she used to be on the radio here when she was young), twee, and frankly a bloody awful actress. Why she is a Dame is beyond me - perhaps because she is famous. YES I love Mary Poppins and the Sound of music, but is that all you have to offer up in her defence?? I know she did a few more serious things later on in life (and I'm NOT talking about those bloody Princess Diaries!), but when you look at the QUALITY of her performance, all she has over Mags is a decent singing voice (and she doesn't have that anymore).
You're all bonkers!

Ok we're all mad. Mad for Julie. She's had a few movies that wern't great but who hasn't? Even Maggie has had a few slip ups. Victor/Victoria was a great movie Ms. is all you have in Julie's defence Mary Poppins and the Sound of Music. As were many of her other movie. She can do kid movies such as PD2 or she can shift into adult mode for roles like Victor/Vicotria very well in my eyes. And Julie's singing voice wasn't just decent it was awesome.

JULIE FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*lol* She sure did ...
And mugglemin : Julie's as good an actress as Maggie ... Completely different, but that doesn't make her bad ... I think they probably could never play one of the roles that the other has played, but that might just be me ... Oh, and you might not know that Julie almost played Jean Broadie ... She was offered the role, but turned it down ... And she is a Dame - there has to be some reason for that ... If she really was that bad, I don't think she would've been honoured that way ... And Endora is right : her singing voice was more than just decent, it was awesome !!
