Really it doesn't bother me, I'm one of those people who can take it or leave it. They're in love, they're welcome to have kids, although, if the kids take over the story, then that's another matter ... ALthough Albus with young kids seems kinda weird

I don't really care, as long as the kids don't take over the story.
I also can't stand those "adopt Harry" stories. It's very likely that Albus and Minerva knew Harry as a baby; they probably even played with/fussed over/babysat him as people are wont to do with all babies, but I find "adopt Harry" fics to be completely annoying because more than half of the content of the actual books wouldn't be relevent if Harry were raised in the wizarding world, especially by Albus and Minerva at Hogwarts.
I guess what I'm saying is that I don't like my fanfics to be too AU, because then they stop being fanfics and start being your own independent stories where you're basically just making up your own plots and characters and all you're using of Rowling's is the names and places, which is totally not the point of fanfiction. Does that make sense?

I was thinking about kids in ADMM fics the other day and was wondering what other people thought about them being portrayed in fanfic as having kids. So here's a poll! -MMADfan Seeing as I'm currently in the midst of writing a multi-chapter-fic in which ADMM have a son, I like some of the kid-fics. It depends, I suppose, on whether they are married and established in their relationship first. As a single mom, I guess I write more of what I know, but also allowing Albus and Minerva to have their own relationship (as well as FFPS!), separate from being parents. I don't care for the "let's adopt Harry" fics but YMMV, of course.

i just noticed that you lot seem to smash you're head against walls an aweful lot. (no wonder i like ie here so very much!!)
haha. no, i read a REALLY good admm chil fic. i thought i would hate it. i thought i would throw my computer at my totally unsuspecting window. but i loved it. she was older, though, a little older then snape.
that said, i more enjoy it when they dynamic duo are justing coming together (fluff! whee!), or when they are just breaking up (angst! whee!), so children arent really usually part of those ficcies

I don't really car either way. What does annoy me, however is Athena Dumbleodre. I have seen her so many times. I think she's an alien. An evil alien. Sent from Mars to eat my Bumblebee's brains out. lol, MMAD kids really do get cliche after a while. Thats why usually when I do write fics w/ their children I tend to make it angsty and don't use names that people have seen over and over again or make the story focus on the perfect family. Like "Because of Them" Totally angsty and exact opposite of the usual MMAD kid story. Check it out sometime if you're interested. admmfics.proboards22.com/index.cgi?board=angstfics&action=display&thread=1047&page=1

That and the word "husband." I don't know why, but as soon as someone's like "Minerva looked at her husband" my head just goes WHAM! Which doesn't really make any sense, but that's what happens. It just bothers me. GAH, I COMPLETELY AGREE. It may be irrational, but that doesn't change anything. The word "husband" (or wife) is completely unnacceptable.

I picked the "hate kids" option...not because I actually hate children, though! I just don't tend to like many fics in which ADMM is already well-established. And I'm too interested in them to have children be the focus. If I come across one that happens to have a child in it but the fic is excellent, then I'll still read it, but I pretty much only seek out the unresolved sexual tension ones. I certainly tend to avoid ones in which there's already a "family". I just...I don't know. I just don't generally like them and they are often too mushy for me.

Ooh, I should have added though, that I do quite like it when one of the pair has kids. Just not with each other!

I can handle kids if the story is well written, but I don't want them to get in the way of my MMADness. When Albus or Minerva start giving more attention to the kids than to each other, it bothers me and I tend to skip the section. I'm such a petulant child about it.
Oddly, I do like pregnancy fics because they usually have Albus and Minerva together so much, but then the child comes in a ruins it for me. Oh, and just personally I prefer having Albus and Minerva married if they're ...err.... you know... but now do a decent job of not being bothered by it. Just don't expect me to write it. I'll always marry them off first.

I don't mind children, but they can't become the main focus. And I also dislike the "adopt Harry" stories or the "Hermione is actually the child of admm" stories.
