I picked Maggie, too. I also like Emma Thompson, though. She's a pretty good actress. Maggie rocks the hardest, though.

I was tempted to go with Evanna Lynch because I think she did a really good job portraying Luna. However, that is the only role I have seen her play. I have seen Maggie in a variety of really different roles, and she has performed all of them really well. She doesn't play Maggie Smith, but portrays the character she is supposed to. That takes talent.

I also picked Mags. Maggie is an amazing actress and can play a lot of different characters really well. And I've seen her in many movies. She ROX!! ;D

Maggie Smith. I've been a fan of hers ever since I saw the HP movies and watched re-runs of 'Murder by death'. She has an amazing range and is one heck of an actress. Julie Walters was great too, but I'm afraid I've never seen any of her shows except the HP ones.

I picked Maggie in every movie I have ever seen her in she was amazing. I loved her in Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya sisterhood, and she is the perfect Minerva.

I loved her in Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya sisterhood. Ya-Ya Sisterhood is the one movie I didn't like her in. But that's just because I don't like movies set in Louisiana because I'm from here and they always get the accent wrong. Seriously I cringed each time Maggie said "bebe," because we definately don't talk like that. Still love her, though.

I put Maggie Smith only cuz she's been my favorite actress for years. She has been number one on my favorites list for quite a while and therefore she wins by default. ~mmadlyinlove~

Ahh, this is a difficult one.
I love Maggie Smith - that's a given but she's not the McGonagall I pictured in my head (please don't lynch me; she'd have been my pick thirty-years-ago - however, as this is on acting skill that's entirely irrelevant. She's been in a hell of a lot of my favourite movies and holds my current favourite line in cinema.
But Julie Walters is amazing. I adore her in Billy Elliot, but for me her acting in 'Educating Rita' was flawless, perhaps even nudging Maggie Smith out of the way.
That said, Imelda Staunton in 'Vera Drake' was downright brilliant; and she was superb in 'My family and other animals.'
So, after all of that I'm going to have to go with Imelda Staunton. I can't quite believe it ...

I would pick Emma Thompson, becasue i like her, but I don't like the way she plays Trelawny. - she rocked in sense and sensibility though. (and it had Alan Rickman in, which was a plus.)
I pick Imelda Staunton. (she was also in My Family and other animals. which rocked) And she plays umbridge really well.

Emma Thompson rocks too, Trewlany is maybe a bit over the rocks but it's good acting on her part.

I picked Emma Thompson. Don't shoot! I think Maggie Smith is amazing. Especially in Jean Brodie, but really in everything. But at the end of the day, Emma Thompson has rocked my world since I was a little kid and I just think she's truly phenomenal. Even in some of the god-awful movies she did way back when. To be able to shine through those...(ladies and gents I give you Junior! Or Dead Again!) Still, Maggie is fantastic and I'll always love her. This is a rock-and-a-hard-place poll!
