Rating: 13+ (Rating could go up)
It was a slow day as Minverva McGonagall sat behind her cluttered desk and rubbed her eyes. Her desk showed the strenuous routine of her job. Papers piled up until she swore she could not see the top. No, maybe it wasn’t cluttered more on the lines of many things was compacted in a small space. Minerva felt as though the paperwork would never end. Everyone she had done she had three put in it’s place.
She leaned back in her chair and ran her hands through her long, curly, black hair. After a few minuets looking out here small, dirty window into the crowed streets. She mused about how much she missed school. After taking the job in the ministry as a junior officer she had found that the ministry job was not as glamorous as she anticipated. Instead of the valiant crusades she had seen her father tell when she as a child. She instead found herself under mountains of moldy, yellowed paperwork, in a dusty, dark, damp, gloomy room. Sitting on the tenth floor of a run down building with no means of vertical transportation due to the antiapiration laws.
She was starting on a rather complicated and tedious paper when a faint knock was heard from her door. Not having had human contact for ten hours she quickly rose from her desk and made her way to her badly varnished door.
As she opened the door she was pleased to see her father’s old friend , Albus Dumbledore. Although, she was thrilled to see he she did not quite understand why he was here at her work. When she left Hogwarts he offered her the Transfiguration vacancy when he became headmaster the year after. Although never having Professor Dumbledore he was apparently aware of her excellent abilities in Transfiguration.
It wasn’t as though she wasn’t immensely flattered at the offer it was as though she felt as if her skills could be used elsewhere. Although she had to admit to herself she really wanted to leave Hogwarts for a while.
“Hello Headmaster Dumbleore” although that formal of a greeting was not necessary she was rather sure that would be a business call.
“Hello Miss McGonagall” He greeted equally as formally. She has changed a lot he thought the older wizard. She was no longer quite as skinny as she was Hogwarts. ‘Yes’ he thought to himself this certainly was not the same young woman that he remember offering the job to several years ago.
“May I came in?” Asked Dumbledore. Minerva was startled at first because the first time in a long time her eyes began to wonder. He was tall, thin, with long auburn hair and beard. His bright blue eyes twinkled as she opened the door. He didn’t seem as old as when he offered her the job, and seemed more attractive . I guess that age really does change you perception of things.
“I’m sorry headmaster. Pleas do come in. I am sure I can find another chair under this paper work...” Albus took a look at his surroundings. ‘So’ he mused to himself ‘this is what Minerva left Hogwarts for. To sit cooped up in a small room with an enormous amount of paperwork.
“I see that the ministry is keeping you quite busy, Miss. McGonagall.” said Professor Dumbledore. “Well since I don’t have enough seniority to delegate this paperwork to someone else.” Minerva said matter of factly. “Ah, I see. I was wondering if you would want to relinquish this paperwork?" "How?" Minerva inquired. "Well,in the event that a new career opportunity would arise?. Albus Dumbledore said this rather quickly and Minerva couldn’t believe that after she had turned him down the first time for a job he would be willing to ask her again.
“I know that you turned me down the first time I offered, but it seems that since I left the Transfiguration position it has become cursed. It has been an revolving doors of professors. Most have not made it a whole year.? Dumbledore gave her most serious look. Which made her think why he would want her to become the next victim.
“And what makes you think that I would want to take this job?” Dumbledore looked at her and smiled. “Your Minerva McGonagall you are too stubborn to let the curse beat you.”
Minerva stared at the floor contemplating. Would she leave this thankless job to become a teacher. A teacher is something she never thought about, she didn’t know how to be a teacher. Although, she could learn and it beats being cooped up with piles of paperwork. “Professor Dumbledore I agree.”
“Then Professor McGonagall, my name is Albus.” “Then my name Albus, is Minerva.”
