what to do?

Well, I haven't heard from my boyfriend in almost two months and I decided to "unoffically" break up with him yesterday, but I finally got an email from him saying that he was sorry he hasn't talked to me in a while. He didn't give a reason why he hasn't talked to me yet. I don't want to break up with him, but I don't want to go through this again. I don't know what to do. Any advice? Please and thank you.
