I am so glad I wasn't the only one who was concerned about the reason why Minerva might be sore, Clayre. I loved way they made up and the conversation between the chess pieces is something I have never seen before.

I loved this chapter - it was fantastic Thankyou for updating! I too admit that I thought Minerva was sore for another reason - but I loved your explanation. It was rather comical, but I felt so sorry for Albus. You have definitely adapted the plot bunny into a truly beautiful story.

Chapter 4
Over the course of the next few days, Minerva found it increasingly difficult to keep her secret. She would never complain about the amount of time she was spending with Albus or the attentions she was receiving. But it seemed that every time he came near her, another owl would arrive and she would have to make up some excuse about its’ contents. It was becoming increasingly harder to invent believable tales or to intercept the bits of parchment before his curious eyes could read the words.
The final straw came when the owner of the resort owled to say that everything she had requested would be possible and that a reservation had been made in her name. It listed the date and time the apparition wards would be lifted so that they could easily go straight to their little cottage. Minerva had been most pleased to learn that there were strong wards around the island preventing anyone not registered from entering, even by floo. Even the mail owls were not permitted and if an emergency happened to arise, one would have to contact the owner, who would in turn see that the occupants were alerted.
As Minerva read the letter and began to draft a response confirming receipt of the letter, Albus walked in unannounced carrying a picnic basket and wearing a devilish smile. “I thought we could make some time for a little blanket picnic this afternoon. Care to drop that quill and join me?”
“Give me a few minutes to finish what I’m working on and I’ll gladly join you.”
“What are you working on? I hope it’s a love letter for me. The one you sent this morning wasn’t nearly enough, though it did cause me to blush at several of the more descriptive phrases you chose.” Albus was getting closer and closer to her and if she tried to hide the parchment, his curiosity would only be aroused that much more.
“It’s just a note to my parents. I’ve been remiss in sending them a letter and if I don’t finish,” she answered as one eyebrow raised, “I fear I might get distracted and not get back to it until much later…not that that is a bad thing at all. I quite like your ways of distraction.”
“I’ve been working on my technique. I have dozens of ideas for keeping you occupied with me instead of work. And I intend on exploring each and every one of them but it does help if I have someone to play with,” he teased, perching himself on the corner of her desk.
“One more paragraph and I’ll be completely yours. By the time you’re done unpacking the food and putting out the blanket, I’ll have this owl on its way and I’ll be in your arms.” Minerva waited until Albus was across the room to finish up her quick letter, requesting that the owner contact her via floo the following afternoon so that she could speak with him in person about some of the more personal details. She would have until then to find some way to get Albus out of the castle so she could ensure that he would not interrupt her plans.
Several hours later the two lovebirds were curled up in the center of Minerva’s large bed, relishing the closeness and the warmth of the other. They hadn’t made love this often since the early days of their romance, when the first blush of passion was fresh. Now, it seemed the more they touched, teased, and flirted, the more passionate the end result, not to mention the more exhausting. But it was in these quiet moments of afterglow that they spoke softly about their love and ways upon which to keep it thriving for decades to come.
Minerva’s head rested upon Albus’ bare chest, her fingers toying with the sprigs of hair which were sprinkled there. Her nails raked slowly across his nipple and down his stomach, inching ever closer to his groin. “Sweetheart, would you do me a favor tomorrow?” Her hand had reached its destination and the tips of her fingers ghosted over the head of his member.
A low moan escaped his lips as his eyes closed slowly. “Mmmm, anything,” he groaned as her hand wrapped around him, squeezing him with just the right amount of pressure.
“Would you be willing to go to London tomorrow for me and pick out a new nightgown for me?” Minerva’s mouth was right against his ear as she made her simple request then drew the lobe into her mouth to tease it further.
“Why…ahhhh…can’t we…ohhhh gods….go together?” Each time Albus tried to speak, Minerva would begin her teasing ministrations once more, leaving him breathless and speechless. The gleam in her eyes was practically devilish as she stroked him to his breaking point.
“I thought if you went alone, you could pick out something special that you’d enjoy and I can plan a little surprise for you.” Minerva swung her legs over his hips, straddling him and giving him a perfect view of her body. “The best of both worlds, wouldn’t you say?” she asked as she easily slid down and invited him into her warmth.
Albus rose up and kissed her hard on the mouth while his hands slid across her stomach and upwards to her breasts. “Anything for you…”
“For us,” she moaned as his fingers skillfully twisted and pulled her already hardened nipples, giving her even more reasons to rock against him eagerly.
Albus bucked his hips in such a way as to send Minerva spiraling over the edge. “For us, yesssss.”
When they woke the following morning, Minerva had to remind him once more as to why he was headed to London alone. While he wasn’t particularly pleased about having to go on the shopping expedition alone, he knew it would be well worth his time and effort. He could already see the desire clouding Minerva’s emerald green eyes and he could feel the electricity as he kissed her goodbye.
After the kiss, Albus found himself standing alone in an empty corridor. It took him a few moments to clear his mind and remember what it was he had to do. Shopping, he thought dismally. Then he had a marvelous idea. Perhaps he could get the shopping over quickly by going to Gladrags in the village. Then he could spend the rest of the day with Minerva. Believing himself to be the most clever man on Earth, Albus hummed a merry tune as he strolled down the hill into the village of Hogsmeade. However, when he reached the shop Albus became suddenly shy about buying the sort of nightgown he'd been imagining from a man he'd known since childhood. He tried, but he just couldn't open the door of the shop and go in. Not even after a glass of Dutch courage from his brother's less than savory establishment. Grumbling about the wasted morning, Albus apparated to Diagon Alley in London. Little did he realize that he had only just begun an adventure which would last for most of the day.
Approaching Madam Malkin's in Diagon Alley, Albus found it was packed with witches, many of whom he knew -- all of whom would know him. He stood in the street outside and counted the mothers of at least seven students, two old school chums of Minerva's, and well the whole shop was filled with former students really. Albus groaned. Why was this so difficult? All he wanted to do was buy some racy, yet tasteful, lingerie for the woman he loved. He just couldn't bring himself to buy it in a shop that was full of people who knew him. They would all be watching what I purchased, he told himself as he changed direction yet again. This time, he was headed for the bank.
Albus couldn't believe it. He'd worked himself into such a state of embarrassment over purchasing Minerva's nightgown where he was known that he even blushed as he changed his money at Gringott's. He felt certain the goblins knew why he wanted the money and were looking at him strangely. Tucking what was probably considerably too much Muggle money into his pocket, Albus transfigured his robes into trousers and a golf shirt and struck out for the Muggle shops, where more trouble awaited. The cashier on The Underground wouldn't take his large bills and Albus was forced to hail a taxi, but once he got in he realized he had no idea where he was going. This day was getting longer and longer and Albus wondered why he had ever agreed to go shopping alone. Then he remembered: Minerva had seduced him into it. Well that just wasn't fair! Deciding he had to get his own back, a devilish gleam entered Albus' eyes as he formed the perfect plan to make Minerva regret sending him on this errand.
With a little help from the taxi driver, Albus found a high street with some very lovely shops, but decided his first order of business should be tea. Entering the tea shop on the corner, Albus ordered a very strong tea along with a generous selection of pastries. He felt he'd earned them already and would certainly be worthy of much more by the end of the afternoon. He took his time savoring the snack and was delighted to find a sweet shop directly across the street when he left the establishment. Deciding that the nightgown could wait a further few minutes, Albus ventured across the street and stocked up on sherbet lemons and a few other goodies for himself, feeling that the day had been partially salvaged. On his way to the register, Albus spotted a box of dark chocolate covered caramel creams and decided to make himself a hero by surprising Minerva with the treat.
Now that his fun shopping was over, Albus resigned himself to find a lingerie shop. To help himself get through the task, he closed his eyes for a moment to remember the steamy look on Minerva's face that morning as she kissed him goodbye and tried to imagine how the night would go once she saw the nightgown. Once before when he'd brought her nightwear as a gift, Minerva hadn't even bothered to get into the garment before Albus found himself being thoroughly thanked. Albus focused on these memories and let his imagination run a bit wild as he ate a sherbet lemon or three and finally entered the shop which had been his true destination on this street. Looking around, he was a bit disappointed to find that most of their offerings were a bit less tasteful than he was looking for, than he knew Minerva would like. He wouldn't be able to get her nightgown here, but he would be able to fulfill his wish to play a little joke.
Albus knew that Minerva trusted his taste in intimate apparel, but he had decided to give her a little fright as payback for tricking him into this shopping trip. She knew she always had the upper hand when it came to their amorous adventures and last night she had used it to get her way. Granted, Minerva didn't employ this tactic often, but Albus wanted to give her pause about trying it again in the near future. Smiling to himself, Albus browsed through the racks of tacky nightgowns and finally picked the one he knew Minerva would hate the most. It was bright pink and very ruffly, with loads of lace, all topped off by cut outs in all the wrong places. Even the salesgirl looked shocked that someone would purchase this particular piece, or maybe it was Albus' age he thought. Once he was outside the shop, he discretely put a charm over the bag so that it would fit in his pocket. The last thing Albus wanted to do was walk around all day with a bag from that shop in his hand.
A few blocks away he finally found a good shop and hoped he could find what he wanted quickly. All day Albus had had a very clear picture in his head of what he hoped to find for Minerva and he was going to be very disappointed if he couldn't at least find something close. He wondered if Minerva would think he had been gone too long, or if she had intended for this to take most of his day. That was when Albus realized that his little minx must have something up her sleeve. She only ever asked him to get things for her when she was very ill and then only things she really needed. So, this whole adventure had merely been to get him away from home for the day. A month ago, he would have thought it meant Minerva just wanted to get rid of him, but after the recent days of surprises and thoughtful gestures he finally knew better. Wondering what she had in store for him when he returned home put a new spring in Albus' step as he entered what seemed to be an infinitely nicer lingerie shop than the previous one.
After a few minutes of looking, and studiously ignoring the "helpful" sales staff, Albus found exactly what he wanted and gleefully headed to the register. He'd found a beautiful floor length nightgown in the smoothest of cream-colored silk. It had a slit up one side all the way to the hip and the thinnest most delicate straps, which Albus could tell would allow the material to dip teasingly over Minerva's generous cleavage. They even had a pair of kitten heeled slippers and a peignoir to match, it was perfect. Not caring in the slightest that it was the most expensive item in the shop, and even forgetting that he'd had a bigger adventure than he'd bargained for, Albus happily handed over the money for the items and hailed another taxi back to the Leaky Cauldron. Several minutes later, he was back in Hogsmeade and making his way to the school, his head filled with thoughts of Minerva in the lingerie he had just purchased.
Albus put his real purchase in his rooms and kept the joke nightgown with him as he went in search of Minerva. He found her in her office looking quite smug and moments after entering the room found himself with an armful of very affectionate witch. His welcome home kiss was even more passionate than their parting kiss earlier that day and Albus decided that just that one simple gesture made the whole outing worth while. It almost made him rethink giving her the awful nightgown. Almost.
"You were away a long time," Minerva said casually. "Did you find me something nice?"
"Mmm hmm," Albus murmured against her neck. "Would you like to see it now, or shall we leave it for a surprise later?"
"Why don't you show it to me now and then I can spend the afternoon dreaming up ways for us to break it in," she purred in response.
Albus smiled, it was all he could do not to laugh, and pulled the shopping bag from his pocket. "It took me quite some time to pick this out, I hope you'll approve."
He handed over the package and watched with interest as Minerva opened it. Albus could see the eagerness in her eyes as she pulled out the tissue paper wrapped bundle and began to peal it open. Moments later, she was holding up the garish pink nightmare and trying very hard not to look disgusted. She blinked at it a few times, as though that might cause it to turn into something more appealing, and then suddenly burst out laughing. Albus had seen the wheels turning in her mind as she figured out what he was up to.
"Albus Dumbledore!" she exclaimed. "Don't ever do that to me again. I thought you'd well and truly lost your mind this time."
Albus couldn't help but join in her laughter as she threw the horrid thing down on the desk and wrapped her arms around his neck.
"I do hope you didn't waste too much money on this," Minerva said. "Now, where's my real nightgown?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," Albus said, doing a terrible job of putting on an innocent expression. "This is the real one."
Minerva swatted him on the arm. "I know you better than to think you would really find this attractive, or that you would ever think I might actually put it on. Come on, you've had your fun, what did you really buy." Albus pouted a bit. "Doesn't seeing that...thing even make you sorry that you tricked me into going shopping today?"
"What do you mean tricked? I've never tricked you into doing anything in my life!"
"Well, let's just say you put me at a bit of a disadvantage last night and asked in a way that you knew would guarantee my agreement. I wanted to show you that sometimes a man shouldn't be let out to do the shopping by himself."
Minerva smiled a slow satisfied smile. "What if I told you that I needed you to go shopping for me because I was too busy to do it myself, but I needed a new nighty for this weekend?"
"And pray tell, why did you need it especially for this weekend?"
"Because we have plans," Minerva said matter-of-factly, as if he should have already known.
“Plans?” Albus was bewildered. That was the last thing he had been expecting her to say.
“Yes sweetheart…plans. All the arrangements have been made. Your bags are packed. Fawkes has been taken care of and all that was missing was you and my new nightgown.”
Albus opened and closed his mouth several times, looking like a fish gasping for air before he was able to wrap his mind around what she was telling him. “So all this time…today…you’ve been…”
“Finalizing travel plans. Arranging for our apparition to the exotic location. Packing your bags. Making sure you had nothing at all do to except kiss me, tell me you love me and then go away with me for a long weekend.”
He opened his arms wide, inviting her to step into his embrace which she willingly did with a smile. “But what if someone at the Ministry owls us? Who’s looking after Hogwarts while we’re both away?”
“Albus Perceival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, do you want to go on this trip with me or not?” Minerva hated to use her stern professor tone but sometimes it was necessary when dealing with Albus. In all the years she had known him and they had been an official couple, they had never truly been away from the entire world. It never failed that at some point during their holiday, an owl would appear bearing some trivial matter yet managing to spoil the moment. This time, there was absolutely no chance of that at all.
“Of course I do. I’m just a bit overwhelmed and surprised. I’ve never been swept off my feet before so it will take a bit of time to adjust to the sensations,” he chuckled.
“Well you’d better hurry because we only have a little while before the apparition wards will be lowered, allowing us to go directly to our little hideaway.”
Minerva kissed the tip of his nose and began straightening things on her desk. She always hated leaving things in disarray, no matter how long she planned to be gone. “Might I suggest you take this and put it away before someone sees it and then tidy up your office a bit? I’ll be up shortly and then we can be on our way.”

Chapter 5 Albus took the offensive nightgown and after another lingering kiss, made his way to his own chambers to do as Minerva had requested. Bits of parchment, unused quills, and candy wrappers all littered Albus’ desk as he absently tried to put some order to the chaos. As he absentmindedly moved owls from one pile to the other and discarded unused items, his mind was focused entirely on Minerva. He couldn’t help but be amazed at the woman he loved beyond words. All this time he had incorrectly assumed their romance was doomed and here she was sending him on a mission just so that she could plan a romantic weekend for them. Popping a sherbet lemon into his mouth, he collapsed into his chair, promptly sitting on something hard and uncomfortable. Ah, my little book. Do you know how much trouble you’ve caused me? I should write a strongly worded letter to your author explaining things in great detail. Or better yet, I can return your ashes to him once Minerva and I have returned. Albus tapped the binding of the book with a long finger as he studied the face of the author as he waved and smiled from the picture. Hmm, little troublemaker, that’s exactly what I’m going to do. Minerva and I will dispose of you and then together we will write a letter explaining your unfortunate demise. Shrinking the little book and tucking it away safely within the pocket of his inner robes, he finished his chore and happily waited for Minerva. Albus didn’t have to wait long before Minerva knocked on his door and entered. Her long hair had been released from its customary bun and it fell freely down her back, something which always made him warm beneath the robes. In her hand, she held a single red rose. “Red for passion, my love,” she whispered against his lips. “Shall we be off?” “I’m yours to do with as you please.” His voice was already turning husky and Minerva’s eyes gleamed with delight, knowing exactly what that tone of voice meant for their later antics. Within no time at all, they were standing on the threshold of a tiny cottage on the shoreline of a secluded island. A wooden pier led out to a separate room, which upon further inspection turned out to be the bedroom. Minerva gasped with delight when she realized that the sea waters were running beneath the transparent floorboards, giving the entire room an erotic sound and feel. She couldn’t help but notice, too, how the blueness of the water matched Albus’ eyes, which gave her another reason to fall in love at first sight with the resort. White beaches stretched for miles and miles, though not a single footprint could be seen in the sand. No other houses were nearby, meaning not another witch, wizard, or Muggle would be seen or heard for the next few days. The icebox and cupboards were stocked with all sorts of delicacies and a rather large bath complete with luxurious salts made the house the ultimate destination. “Minerva, it’s lovely. I’ve never seen a more beautiful spot in all the world. However did you find it?” Albus’ strong arms had wrapped around her waist as they gazed out across the vast ocean. “Nicholas suggested this place to me and helped make some of the arrangements. But the rest was all my idea. I have everything planned and I do believe you’re going to love it.” “So, my dear, what’s first on our agenda? I’m at your complete disposal so do with me as you wish. I look forward to satisfying your every whim, desire, and need.” His breath teased her senses as his hands pulled her back against his body. “I thought we could unpack our things and get settled and then later go out for a stroll along the beach. How’s that sound to you?” “Sounds good but why don’t we unpack using magic, use our time in a more positive way,” he chuckled as his eyebrows wiggled curiously. “Then, if we’re still energetic enough, we can take that moonlight stroll along the shore.” Minerva turned in his arms and began unfastening his robes, letting her lips follow closely behind her fingertips. “I’m the one who is supposed to be seducing you, remember?” Albus scooped Minerva into his arms and laid her gently up in the bed as the waters lapped softly beneath them. His hands and lips grazed across her skin as he spoke tender words of love and longing, telling her all the things he wished to do to her. The moon was high in the sky before they found enough energy to move from the bed to some other part of the cottage or surrounding grounds. Days and nights faded into one another as the two lovers thoroughly enjoyed their time alone. Long walks on the beach, skinny dipping in the warm sea, feasts fit for kings and queens fed lovingly to the other, all made the hours and minutes fly by in reckless abandon. Neither could remember a time when their love had been so strong or so prevalent in their hearts and minds. It was as if they were constantly flirting with one another, teasing to the brink of throwing caution to the wind, even in the mundane things like preparing meals or picking up the abandoned clothing or bedsheets crumpled on the floor. The last night of their brief holiday, Minerva had an elaborate plan. While Albus stretched out across the bed for a quick nap, she packed a picnic basket full of food and headed to the beach. She had secretly packed their favorite blanket, a little reminder of their past and future trysts together, and headed to the beach. There she spread out the items and lit a few candles before magically creating a fire upon the shore to keep them warm late into the night. After waking him from his nap, Minerva helped him out of his clothing and led him to the beach. She watched as his eyes darted from the blanket and then back to her, his eyes raking hungrily over her lithe form. “I thought we should have one last picnic and I brought along a blanket for comfort,” she spoke softly. “I want you to lie down on your stomach while I give you a massage. Then, later, we can eat and who knows what else as the night wears on.” Albus kissed her passionately on the lips, letting his tongue slip inside her mouth to taste and taunt as she lowered them to the blanket. “On your stomach,” she whispered as he protested the absence of her body against his. When he was completely settled, Minerva straddled his bottom, pressing her heated core against his cheeks while her hands began their magic. Using the oils she had specifically ordered for the occasion, Minerva spread a generous amount across his back and with tender hands, she began to massage him, at first using light strokes to arouse the senses and then firmer ones to heighten them. It didn’t take long before Albus was moaning her name, especially when her nails or bare breasts would press into his back, causing his member to throb with need. The last straw for him was when Minerva poured the last of the vials onto his back and then used her entire body to spread the oils across him, thus coating her own body as well. “I think it’s time you turned over. I seem to have made quite a mess and need some assistance,” she purred into his ear. Not needing any further prodding, he flipped over onto his back and marveled at the sight of Minerva’s glorious oil coated body bathed in the soft moonlight. It was almost enough to make him release without her ever having touched his hard member. Drawing her down onto him, she wiggled and brushed against him, letting her oil coated body glide over his as they made love beneath the stars. “Merlins beard, Min…how long was I passed out?” Minerva had, for the first time in their lives together, managed to bring Albus to such a powerful release that he faded out for a brief period of time. “I’m not sure. I think I either dozed off to sleep or passed out myself. Though I must say that we should try that position again and very soon,” she giggled. At some point during their lovemaking, Albus had managed to maneuver Minerva’s heated core over his face as she took him into her warm mouth. Their mutual displays of love and desire grew as they each increased the pressure and speed of their lips and tongues across highly sensitive arousal points, leading to one of the most powerful releases either of them had ever known. Minerva cuddled into Albus’ side on the blanket near the fire. The soft sounds of the ocean waves filled the companionable silence as fingertips danced across sated bodies and soft sighs filled the air. “And to think this was made possible because of a silly little book,” Minerva spoke suddenly out of the blue. Albus’ deep laugh rumbled through his body and hers. “Yes and speaking of that little book…Accio book,” he announced. Minerva could barely make out the form of something flying in the air towards them in the darkness. “What on earth are you doing with that book here…when we are doing so well?” Minerva sat up and looked at the root of their recent problems now held in Albus’ hands. “I thought we could sacrifice it to the island gods…as payment for giving us back our love and romance, which was so brutally stolen by these pages.” Albus took the book and was about to cast it into the fire before Minerva’s hands wrapped around his wrist, stopping him. "No, let's keep it to always remind us of how special our relationship is and not to take each other for granted. When things get a little strained, or the passion runs low, we can look at that awful book and remember that no matter what else happens in life this love is forever." Albus glanced at the book in his hands and back into Minerva’s eyes. Nodding his head in agreement, he placed the book inside the picnic basket for safe keeping before he captured Minerva’s lips with his. He lowered her to the blanket and then cradled her body to his, just as the sun was beginning to cast its first golden streaks in the sky. In a few hours they would have to return to Hogwarts and all the daily problems that awaited. They would have to face the challenge of keeping their love alive and heated, nurtured and cherished but that was a task each relished. But for now, it was just two lovers, their limbs entwined, as a new day dawned in the distant horizon. Upon returning to the school, the ridiculous yet highly useful book was shelved in a place of honor. Occasionally they would remove it from the shelf and flip through the pages, sharing a good laugh. Albus often remarked how it would be nice to meet the gentleman who penned the book so he could offer him a proper thank you for saving the most important relationship in his life. And every time, Minerva would take the book, place it carefully back on the shelf and lead Albus into their bedroom to banish all further thoughts on the book, the author, or those troubled weeks. And of course it didn’t hurt that every year since that first outing, Albus and Minerva returned to their little seaside cottage for long stretches of time to rekindle their romance and to pay tribute to the little book with the passionate ending. The End A/N: Thanks again for all the wonderful reviews. We just hope you all enjoyed reading this as much as we enjoyed writing it.

I loved reading it. It will always remain a favourite story of mine. I could go on and on and praise the chapter, the ties with the plot as a whole, how much I enjoyed to read each and every chapter (and be sure, I most certainly did). But it will suffice to say that it is, quite simply, perfect.

I only just found this story today, so I got to read it all at once!!! I love this truly amazing story and I just couldn't leave my computer while reading it! Of course, one of my contacts fell out so now I have a headache from reading... ah well, it was well worth it! Fabulous!! Will go put in new contact lense... Cammie
