Today's picture is from the 1961 production of Anouilh's The Rehearsal. The production starred Maggie as Lucile.

I'm curious why her mother said she didn't have the pretty face of acting? I think Maggie is lovely!

Today's picture is from "The Master Builder", because this play is all kinds of awesome. Larry! Maggie! Ibsen! Playful banter! "I like you for that." "Only for that?" "And one of those little devils in white was shouting, over and over..." "Master Builder, Master Builder! I was that little devil."

By the way...I personaly think how she talks to her son in Tea with Mussolini (Uh Chris i think is the one) was funny. I bet he was thinking..."Damn Mum's a Great Actress!"

That photo is in Maggie's biography. I completely agree with you on how Maggie speaks to Chris in Tea With Mussolini - it makes me laugh every time!

As a tribute to the great playwright, William Shakespeare, I’ve put together a Maggie-in-Shakespeare picspam. I’ve managed to get a picture from every Shakespeare production she’s ever been in except “Measure for Measure” (1976, Stratford). If you have a picture/pictures from that production, I’d be completely indebted to you. community.livejournal.com/damemaggiedaily/21626.html?view=49274#t49274

Two things. 1) Fabulous picspam. I'm sort of surprised that Dame Maggie never played Hermione in Winter's Tale. That's a role I've always wanted to see her in (or pictures of her, at any rate ) 2) You literally did my homework for me. I'm getting ready to start work on a Shakespeare piece and I had totally forgotten that I needed research to my stage manager by tomorrow. Then I was like, 'good, this picspam reminded me', then I saw the Othello pictures and I was like, "Oh! That's actually all I need." So, Cheers!

Unfortunately, she never played Hermione, which has always made me sad. I wish she had, too. Glad I could help you with your homework *** So, it's time for the Friday Spam once again! This week's prompt is "unawares". Enjoy! community.livejournal.com/damemaggiedaily/21876.html

*request. Could you do a spam with like more of her and the boys. I love those! Definitely! Anyway, I forgot to post yesterday, so you get two photos for today. Yesterday's pic: Today's picture is from one of Maggie's appearences on The Carol Burnett Show (this one in 1975), during a "Family" sketch entitled "Bubba's Teacher". (You can find it on YouTube). And today starts our third theme week! This month's theme week features Noel Coward - either Maggie and Noel together, or Maggie in one of his plays. Today's picture is from the 1972 (?) production of Design for Living, starring Maggie as Gilda, Robert Stephens as Otto, and Denholm Elliot as Leo.

Today's picture is from the 1964 production of Hay Fever, part of the National Theatre's revival of Noel Coward's plays. Earlier in the 60's, Maggie had played the role of the flapper, Jackie Coryton, on television. In this production, however, (which was directed by Noel Coward himself), she played Myra Arundel, the vamp.
