Today's photograph is from the 1965 production of Strindberg's rather dark play "Miss Julie". Maggie plays the title character, Julie, a wealthy girl from a good family who falls for one of the servants.

Today's picture is from "Travels with my Aunt", because, in between reading Strong Poison, Have His Carcase, and Gaudy Night, I re-read the book. Filmed finally in 1972, Katharine Hepburn, George Cukor's original choice to play Aunt Augusta, had been fired for demanding too many re-writes of the script. It turned out that she re-wrote the entire thing, leaving few bits of the original script intact. Maggie Smith was chosen to play Aunt Augusta instead, even though she was many years younger than Alec McCowen, who played her nephew.

Today's picture is from the 1973 Alan J. Pakula movie "Love and Pain and the Whole Damn Thing", starring Maggie as Lila Fisher and Timothy Bottoms as Walter Elbertson. A "Love Story"-esque film, the movie was set in Spain.

Today's picture is from the 2003 movie "My House in Umbria", starring Maggie as Emily Delahunty, a writer. After the train she is on is blown up, she takes in the survivors, who include a young man, an older gentleman, and a little girl, who touches each of their hearts.
