Today's picture is from the 1992 made-for-television movie Memento Mori. Based upon the Muriel Spark novel of the same name (Muriel Spark also wrote The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie), Maggie played Mrs. Mabel Pettigrew.

Today's picture is from the 1999 movie Tea With Mussolini, starring Maggie as Lady Hester Random, Judi Dench as Arabella, Cher as Elsa Morganthal Strauss-Armistan, Joan Plowright (aka Lady Olivier) as Mary Wallace, and Lily Tomlin as Georgie Rockwell. A semi-autobiographical film about Franco Zefferelli's early life, it is set in Italy just before World War II breaks out. It's a great film and I highly recommend it! As a side note of interest, Maggie's oldest son, Chris Larkin, appears at the end of the movie as Major Gibson.

Love Friday pic spams!!
I have Jean Brodie it's awesome. Although a fair bit of the commentaries I watch say Maggie is a handful on set....I jsut can't believe it. I mean the bitting wicked tongue sure that's what I love about her. But I highly doubt she's a Diva.

So, today's picture is from The Importance of Being Earnest because I just did a presentation on this play. Aaaand some exciting news!: Fifteen actors, ranging alphabetically from Julie Andrews to Meryl Streep, will be inducted this year into the Actors Hall of Fame. The list of honorees, which the organization's president, Rusty Citron, will unveil Thursday, also includes Robert De Niro, Judi Dench, Robert Duvall, Kirk Douglas, Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman, Olivia de Havilland, Hal Holbrook, Anthony Hopkins, James Earl Jones, Angela Lansbury, William H. Macy and Maggie Smith. The full article can be found here: www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3id3ffb6d5b9e0b9117994ce3f73d9388f

Oh heavens, I did Earnest once. I 'played' Lady Bracknell, and I use that term lightly because I hardly consider what I did in that role to be acting. Good Grief.
It wasn't the language itself so much as the sheer amount of words, Lady Bracknell starts talking and never seems to stop. So I'd get going and my director would stop me five minutes later, me still monologue-ing , and say, "Grace, darling. I understand every word you're saying, your dialect is impeccable, but none of the words mean anything to me anymore."
I had a hard time delivering the message to the audience. I would have paid in my own blood to see Maggie play the Lady Bracknell just once before I gave my performances, just to see how she did it. Perhaps magic.

Mags will be in Nanny McPhee? Where did you discover that?
Mags inducted with her old pal Juds!? AWESOME!!!
The pic is cute.
Oh and McGonagallsGirl. I totally agree. Maggie has that magic that actors dream of having. And she's smart enough not to reveal her secrets and spoil it. After all....a true magician never tells XD
