A cry for realism

You can't possibly expect fics to be realistic in terms of historical attitudes. You can, however, to some degree hope that they are realistic in terms of what it means to be in a romantic relationship. You cannot expect teenagers to write decent fanfiction or have any idea what it means to be in love, since as far as I know, teenage relationships rarely last longer than a year, if that. I personally am a teenager and can tell you that teenagers are extremely disillusioned when it comes to the politics of a relationship and have no idea what they are getting themselves into, so why should they be expected to know what their favorite fiction characters would do in a relationship? Also, most teenagers just can't write.

Well, I'm 17 and a high school senior. I'm not the greatest fanfiction writer out there. I know this, I haven't been writing very long and it is very difficult to create an original idea with the huge number of ADMM fics out there. I try my best to write what I like. There are some ADMM fics out there that I don't like (namely the teacher/student relationship fics) but it is the quality (or lack of) that jumps out at me when I read a fic.
If someone finds it offensive that one of my fics includes ADMM nudity, fine, they don't have to read any further or flame me. But if my writing doesn't flow or I need to edit a bit more, I would like them to tell me. I once had someone leave a scathing review about the first fic I wrote, McGonagall's Daughter saying that it was a mary sue and noncanon. He also said he had read the entire thing. I told him I didn't blame him for not liking it and telling me so, but I had to ask, why did he bother to read all 24 chapters if he didn't like it?

So if the writing is poor, offer advice to the author. They could be an aspiring writer, like myself, who isn't quite sure what they're doing. If you just don't like the content, however, just move on, stop reading the fic and move on to something else.

I can´t write very well, I know this.
I try, yes. I am only 14.
I try to get better, I know that practice makes perfect.
Most of the stories I read are realistic, and very good.
Some are just ment to be funny.

Ok so im a lurker from way back but this topic is just way toooo funny and i felt it was also time i came out of the shadows. And i am bored.

Anywho back on track, does escapism mean nothing anymore!? I really enjoy 90% of the time the fics that are posted on this website. I mean if i hated the at all i probs would have told you so. Im so sick of wingy teenagers!! Yes you hate the world, and everyone suck except you.... i have been there so i have no problem with you thinking like that!! But dont advertise your ignorance or your stupidity for that matter!! =)

I am a teenager (I am 16). Last time I checked I didn't hate the world, and no everyone doesn't not suck except me. My proof of that is the immense respect I have for all the excellent fanfiction writers on this board who, more often than not, make my day. I'm so very glad with you not having a problem with me hating the world and me thinking everyone else sucks (even though I don't). I expect I'll sleep much easier now. I am neither ignorant nor stupid thank you very much. It is only your ignorance being proved by you labeling all teenagers the same when it simply does not work like that.

I had a bad day too, I gritted my teeth through the entirety of reading your post to stop myself from taking out my bad day on you. I hope your day tomorrow is better.

I think that this topic has been beaten to death and although I don't agree with what was said in the original post the issue should be over and done with by now. Let us remember that this did happen over a year ago. Also, we have all had days where we have said or done something rather ignorant or out of line so lets just give Altra Planatir a break. Besides I don't think that she even posts here any more. Does she?
Well, thats all. But, on a closing note I would just like to put the idea out there that this board needs to stay a positive outlet for all of us to come to after a bad day and if on occasion someting like this should arise then clearly it should be adressed. However, the way it is adressed is as important as the initial issue itself and rather then repeating eachother post after post why not just move on and read some good AD/MM fics!

Ok fine perhaps i generalised a bit. Now i apologise to you Amy, though i dont know you from a bar of soap and none of my coments where aimed at you. In fact i have enjoyed your posts on this site in the past and if you let me know if you have written anything im sure i have been there and read it.

Also i probs should have taken a look at when this thread was started, damn over a yr ago and you guys are still on about that. I guess it was just at the top of the page and i let my fingers type without thinking. So my post was aimed at Altra whatsername and no one else. K? Everyone cool?
