I love this sentance so much: Maggie said this after Richard had died : "We walked around as a pair in Harry Potter. I always think Prof McGonagall was madly in love with him anyway" I think we can´t ignore that can we? Lise

definitely we can´t !!!! I read that somewhere...so at least Maggie herself think´s Min is in love with Albus...that could be the reason for the "longing" looks she offers him

I didn't know that sentance!! (And I call myself an ADMM fan... I am... really!!) I loved it! "I always think Prof McGonagall was madly in love with him anyway" I ABSOLUTELY concur with Maggie... yay! She IS in love with him !! And also agree with you... we can't ignore that!

Oh yeeeeeeeeeesssssssssss!!!!!!!!!! I finally have proper proof, and do you know that in a recent interview Michael Gambon said when asked about acting with Maggie Smith that he said "Yes well I have played her husband three times before anyway", or something to that effect! By the way snowcat where did you find that quote?

He has ? In which movies ? At the moment I can only remember the two of them acting together in Gosford Park, and he certainly hasn't played her husband there ... I love that Maggie - Quote, btw ... ;D

In my Empire Magazine (Dec 20001) there is a character bio of Minerva and this is what is says:
Professor McGonagall (Maggie Smith)
Sour-faced but kind hearted Transfiguration teacher. Dumbledore's sidekick. They might have been lovers, once, but he could never commit!

>Sour-faced but kind hearted Transfiguration teacher. Dumbledore's sidekick. They might have been lovers, once, but he could never commit!< Awesome quote Clayre! However, I disagree with the last sentence. I've seen how normal, adult people (school teachers too) act when "they have been lovers once but he could never commit". Suffice to say that "she" never came to our class reunions (it's customary to invite teachers here as well) for fear that they might meet. No matter how grown up and intelligent Minerva is, she would have long fled Hogwarts if Albus had rejected her (if not for avoiding to meet him every day then because she probably would want to find another suitable gentleman for herself). If they're still lovers...that I would understand.

Actually I am glad you mentioned Empire magazine I found this interview with Michael Gambon www.empireonline.co.uk/interviews_and_events/interview.asp?IID=365And his quote about Maggie is thus: Is it fun working with Francis De La Tour and other actors of your generation?Oh yeah, Frankie’s from the theatre and I mainly do the theatre. I’ve played Maggie (Smith)'s husband three times in various films, TV and plays. So it is like going on holiday everyday; you muck about. Except having this stuck on (gestures to beard) really makes your life miserable. It’s dreadful. Then they put the moustache on just before the take, which is the worst bit. Thank god, I’ve never had to eat anything yet. The main problem is gluing the beard on. It takes 15 minutes, but I could have a really complicated scene to play and worry more about the beard. [/I] And I guess that tells us why we now have the little acorn beard wrap.

>I've seen how normal, adult people (school teachers too) act when "they have been lovers once but he could never commit". Ahh Foci, I just can't agree with you there. I would reason that Albus' inability to commit would be because of his devotion to Hogwarts, not his lack of love for Minerva, and I think her devotion to HIM would enable her to understand and let him go... I think it's one possibility...but I don't insist on it. I just love those angsty stories where they both know what might have been, but have taken a different path... Here's one brilliant example by Larinzia, called Secret Surprises: www.fanfiction.net/s/1654094/1/Love these kind of stories, I does. mugs.x

i love that qoute. and actually i think dumbledore couldn't commit because he feared for her life. as he could protect himself against voldemort but he couldn't protect minerva. and voldy would use her as bait for him/harry.
