It all ended today, the stolen glances, the smiles, the silent tears, the heartfelt goodbyes. She was saying goodbye to it all today. She had graduated last night, the most memorable moment of her life and all he could say to her was “Well done.” After all the stolen touches, kisses, and nights of passion all he could tell her was “Well done.”
I was foolish to think I meant something to him. Sighing, Minerva resumed packing her trunk for the last time. She would never return to this school, for that she was certain. Returning to this school would require facing him again and that was not something she wanted to do ever again in her life. He had shown her what she meant to him, returning drunk from his brothers bar with love marks all over his body. She didn’t even try and ask what happened or who they were from, she didn’t want to be lied to again. No Minerva had been lied to enough when he whispered those three words to her in her ear. “ I Love You” Those three words that held so much promise and hope for Minerva but yet held nothing for Albus. He told her what he thought she wanted to hear, in return for something he wanted.
I probably wasn’t the first, or for that matter the only one who has fallen for his trap. I see how the other girls in my year look at him. I can’t help but wonder how many of them has he bed. Minerva shook her head these where not the type of thoughts that she wanted to have on the last day she would ever be at this school. Merlin what a beautiful day it is, I have plenty of time before the train departs I think I will take a walk around the school for old time sake.
Lost in thought Minerva subconsciously found herself at the edge of the lake, where Albus and her had shared their first kiss.
“I thought I’d find you here”
Minerva tensed, the one person she was hoping to avoid was there, she wished she could turn and run but that she knew would not be the adult thing to do. “Yes but I have reason to be here, as for you, not so much. Why am I the one you seek?”
Minerva still had here back to him, she could feel his brilliant blue eyes boring a hole in the back of her head, yet she still refused to turn around and look at him. No she would not give him that cheap satisfaction that she was still in love with him.
“Minerva, my dear will you please look at me”
Minerva could hear the plead in his voice but being the stubborn person that she was did not even twitch in his direction. No she was set on not listening to the well thought out speech he so truly wanted to give her. “Actually professor it’s Miss McGonagall not Minerva. I might have graduated last night but that doesn’t mean that gives you any right to call me anything but my proper name. “
“Please Minerva call me Albus, you are no longer my student.”
Turning around she finally faced him, “No thanks professor, Albus just seems to personal”
“I once was Albus to you.”
“Yes but that was a very long time ago, yet I must ask how many others of my year referred to you as Albus? I dare say there must have been many so willingly ready to let you bed them”
Minerva saw confusion and hurt cross Albus’ eyes. Was she really the only one? Certainly not.
“Bed them? Is this truly what you think of me? A horny man willing to bed anyone who throws themselves my way? You Minerva McGonagall were the only one.”
“There is no need to lie professor, I will not tell anyone, I have kept us a secret and haven’t told a soul. I just need to know the truth.”
Albus reached out for her hand but she saw his intentions and folded her arms across her chest. Instead he reached his hand up and brushed her cheek, she pulled away from his touch. She would not be fooled again into believing his lie.
“Minerva, you were the only one, I would never just sleep with one of my students for the hell of it. I would never put myself in a position to be fired from the job I love or be banished from my home for excuse my language but for a good fuck.”
“Please do not lie to me anymore; you have caused enough damage as it is”
“Minerva please believe me when I say you were the only one. I” Albus was cut off by Minerva.
“No, don’t you dare say it, don’t you dare try and make my life hell again. I did everything for you, everything and then you to go off and find pleasure in another woman or girl or whoever. No I can with stand a lot, but I cannot pick myself up and fix the broken pieces that you shattered so long ago again. Seeing you that night return from your brother’s bar with love marks all over you was enough to break me, I don’t need to be broken again. “
Albus was lost, he had never visited his brother’s bar during the school year, in fact it would be a year in July since he had actually seen his brother. “Minerva I haven’t seen my brother in nearly a year. We barley talk as it is.”
“Don’t you dare Albus Dumbledore.”
“Do what Minerva? Huh try and figure out why the love of my life just stopped loving me? Why she avoided me at all costs. I swear ever since I came back from France five months ago you have avoided me like the plague. I sent you letter after letter and yet I never heard back from you. It doesn’t make sense to me Minerva. What did I do to deserve you just leaving me high and dry without any explanation?” Then in dawned on Albus, his brother had said in a letter that he had came and visited him while he was away.
“Minerva look at me”
Minerva was trying so fiercely to keep her tears at bay. She was still so madly in love with him but his words only hurt her further. For she knew what she saw, he was simply just trying to cover his ass. She would not fall so foolishly again for him. No she deserved better than that. She could hear the train near and she knew that it was time to go.
“No, it ends here today. Albus please don’t put a coma where I have put a period. It’s over, it’s so very over. In a few years you will forget all about the green eyed Head Girl, and I will forget all about my blue eyed professor.”
“Minerva if you would only let me explain. I don’t want to lose you” Albus had desperation in his eyes, willing her to stay and hear him out.
“You lost me five months ago. You lost me when you decided it was okay to find pleasure in another person. I really must go now. Have a good life professor; I hope you find your hearts true desire.”
With this Minerva turned and ran off towards the castle leaving in her wake her professor. He only hoped one day soon that their paths would cross again. Until then he would wait. For Minerva was his true hearts desire.
