The Best Nap Ever
Remus Lupin elbowed Arthur Weasley and gestured subtly to the other side of the drawing room. Arthur smiled and laid a hand on Molly's shoulder to draw her attention, pointing out to her what Remus had to him. She followed his gaze and returned his smile; it really was a cute picture. They sat there in companionable silence looking over owls from other Order members for another few minutes until Molly spoke.
"Everyone will be here soon, should we wake them?"
Remus and Arthur exchanged glances, neither really wanted that job. "Perhaps if we left and closed the door loudly it would startle them awake," Arthur finally suggested.
It didn't seem like the polite thing to do, but everyone agreed they would rather not let the professors know they had been watching them sleep. So, they exited the drawing room and closed the door with a small bang and then made a lot of noise walking away. Inside the drawing room, two people slowly awakened and looked at each other with sleep clouded eyes trying to figure out what had happened.
~~~~~An hour earlier~~~~~
Minerva McGonagall arrived at Grimmauld Place an hour early for the scheduled meeting, but was secretly pleased to see that Albus Dumbledore was also already there. Molly Weasley led her into the drawing room and offered her some tea as Albus motioned for Minerva to sit next to him on a small couch. She settled in next to him with her tea and they began a quiet conversation as Molly moved across the room to sit next to Arthur.
Albus and Minerva eventually settled into a companionable silence as they watched their former students and now friends quietly reading letters and going over plans from other members of the Order of the Phoenix. The three sitting in front of them now had all been Gryffindors and Minerva felt a sort of motherly pride thinking about the lives they were all leading now, about their bravery, and of course their unyielding loyalty to Albus. Albus watched Minerva watching her former lions and knew what she was thinking; she loved them and was proud of them but she was worried for them too, although she would never admit it. Without realizing it, he had rested his arm on the back of couch and as he thought about Minerva worrying silently about the Order it slowly drifted down to her shoulders.
He sat there for a while, lost in thought and just as he felt himself beginning to get drowsy, Albus felt something drop softly onto his chest. Looking down, he realized that Minerva had fallen asleep and sort of drooped sideways into him. Albus tightened his arm around her back and readjusted her slightly, hoping he wouldn't wake her for she must really be tired to sleep in the middle of the day. When his arm around her tightened, Minerva sighed quietly and moved closer to him in her sleep, one arm going around his waist. Albus couldn't believe his luck. He had always wanted to hold Minerva while they slept, of course doing so with her conscious permission and not in front of a group of former students would have been preferable, but he would take what he could get for now. He let himself relax and began to feel sleepy again himself, and so he drifted into a light sleep with his cheek resting against the top of Minerva's head.
The sound of a door closing and people talking woke both professors up. Before she opened her eyes, Minerva registered that there was someone holding her and that she was holding him as well. Breathing in the soft aroma of lemons and chocolate that seemed to follow Albus everywhere he went, she deduced that she must still be dreaming and decided she would rather not wake up. Tightening her arm around his waist, Minerva snuggled in closer to the warmth of Albus and felt his beard brush against her face. 'Wait, in my dreams his beard doesn't tickle like that,' she thought and so very slowly Minerva opened her eyes and looked up...
Albus had opened his eyes as soon as the door closed and it took him only a moment to remember where he was and what had happened earlier. He wondered briefly how long they had been sleeping and then Minerva pulled herself in closer to him and all conscious thought stopped as he just enjoyed holding her. She didn't give him long to enjoy it, however, for only moments later Minerva looked up at him with sleep clouded and clearly confused green eyes. She made no effort to move away from him, though, so Albus just smiled at her and wrapped his left arm around her waist. They stayed like that for a minute until all the sleep had cleared from Minerva's eyes and she began to think about the actions of her sleeping self.
"Albus, I’m --" she started, but he silenced her.
"Ah, I believe I hear the front door, must be time for the meeting. We should get to the kitchen, my dear." He stood and offered her his arm to walk downstairs.
Minerva was so confused and her brain was trying desperately to work out why Albus had stopped her from apologizing and if his actions meant he would rather forget about what happened than discuss it.
He stopped her right outside the door to the kitchen and leaned in to whisper, "I do believe that was the best nap I've ever had. Perhaps we could try it again sometime, in a less public setting?"
All Minerva could do was smile at him and nod her agreement.
Okay, so I know that's been done a lot, but oh well it's just fluffy nonsense. I really don't like the title, though so any suggestions would be most welcome.
