Thinks she has destroyed too many brain cells with sappy harlequin novels.
Minerva looked up from her desk at Albus as he walked into his office obviously preoccupied. His brow was creased with his usual frown. Minerva stared at the small wrapped box in his hand with momentary confusion then she realized what it was. Minerva looked up and met those periwinkle blue eyes and as he smiled the old loving twinkle returned. He had been stretched too thin by the return of Voldemort and recalling all the members of the order. He had the whole of the order working on missions nearly nonstop since they had been recalled; Snape was spying again even though it hurt both their hearts and the other members doing various jobs. He alone was coordinating the true defense of the wizarding world since Fudge wasn’t doing shit about Voldemort. The poor man hardly had time to sleep and eat yet he had remembered her birthday when even she forgot. Tears fell on her cheeks as he handed her the small wrapped box.
“Happy birthday my Tabby. Do you think I would ever forget your birthday even when the world is falling apart?”
“Thank you Albus. I had forgotten my own birthday Albus how did you ever remember?”
“Because my dear tabby your birthday is my favorite day in the entire world. Because it gave me you.”
Minerva saw the twinkle growing in his eyes and she carefully unwrapped the box and opened it. The tears in her eyes spilled as she looked at it. It was a ring with rubies in gold. Albus smiled at Minerva and touched her cheek.
“Tabby love I wanted you to have something special this year. I am sorry we haven’t had our time together alone this year. I love you forever.”
“I love you too Bumblebee. Now give me a kiss you old coot we only have a bit of time until your bed check.”
“Demanding aren’t you tabby?”
“You like me that way old man.”
“Of course I do. You keep me balanced.”
Albus softly kissed Minerva’s velvet soft lips and held her. Even now as the world fell apart and war loomed on the horizon they had each other to hold to in the normalcy of it all. If only the students knew this secret they would think the world had already ended. Albus smiled and opened the door for the now silvery gray tabby that was going to check on the students. With a lighter heart because of the smile in her tired eyes he would go on. Even if the rest of the world fell apart there would always be love.
