I Hate You 2 – The Extended Version
A/N: As much as I enjoyed my experimentation with both drabble and dialogue I just wasn’t happy with the outcome. Thanks everyone for your positive reviews, but I don’t think the original quite portrayed what I wanted it to; it needs this little bit more. I hope you all like this one too. I’m happier with the pace here too. Plase tell me which version you prefer.
“Albus! Must you insist upon making so much noise?” snapped Minerva McGonagall, in a particularly irate manner.
She sighed quietly to herself upon noticing the tone of her voice and her mood. It really wasn’t fair to take a frustrating day and a hell of a headache out on Albus. But his continued rustling of sweet wrappers not only distracted her from her reading, it also enhanced the throbbing pain behind her eyes. She stubbornly defied the fact that the reading in itself probably wasn’t helping.
“It’s only sweet wrappers, Minerva,” was his gentle reply, as he looked over at her, slightly concerned, but, as ever, slightly amused.
“It only ever is! How on earth am I supposed to read over that infernal racket?!” Minerva hissed back at him, biting back another sigh at her own short temper.
“Well, Minnie-” Albus began, mirth dancing in his twinkling blue eyes.
“Don’t you dare start with the nicknames, Headmaster,” she interrupted sharply, glad that for the moment any anger she felt was justified. She detested nicknames of any sort, especially that nickname. And he knew it.
“Headmaster is it?” Albus questioned in a mock affronted tone, “Well, I shall just leave you to your reading and formalities, Ms McGonagall, I’ll rustle my sweet wrappers elsewhere.”
He got up to leave, collecting sherbet lemons and other assorted sweets, preparing to leave Minerva to her temper and reading when the expected response was heard.
“Sit down, please. You can eat your sweets here if you must, try to be quiet though,” Minerva asked, thinking about how much worse she would feel if she pushed Albus away too.
“I knew you’d come around to my way of thinking…” Albus chuckled, trailing off as she looked at up at him with a mixture of mirth and exasperation in her eyes.
“I hate you,” she muttered to him.
“I love you, too,” he replied cheekily, grinning as she looked up at him sharply.
She just shook her head at him, returning to her book with a silly grin spreading over her face.
