This was written as an entry to a contest at The Hideaway. It's my first drabble, I had no idea how hard it would be to keep to 200 words. Thanks to childminerva and Sprinks for reading and not slating it too badly.
Disclaimer If you think JKR wrote this you need help....
So, here goes...
It was only a phantom, it had to be. He was dead... wasn't he?
She glanced up to the enchanted ceiling. Nebulous clouds rolled overhead, casting a gloomy light over the Great Hall. She looked again to the empty chair at the staff table... a trick of the light.
Perhaps a mirage, a fata morgana. The rational professor in her knew it couldn't be real. An atmospheric phenomenon, layers of hot and cold air causing refraction and distortion of an image. The woman in her, the heartbroken, grief stricken woman yearned for it to be real.
Slowly she dropped to her knees, covering her face with shaking hands. Silent sobs wracked her slight frame as she cried for her lost love. She cried for the long years they danced around each other, both afraid to reveal their feelings. She cried for the few months of pure joy they had spent in the arms of their one true love. She cried for the agony of enduring years of pain and loneliness once more.
The mournful, haunting melody of a phoenix song drew her from her reverie. She peered through slim fingers to the empty chair... No.... It was only a phantom.
So..... Happy Valentines everyone.....lol
What did you think???

jaye, I loved this, really loved it. It's so beautiful and sad at the same time, the perfect angst drabble. Wonderful work, I hope you keep writing. If you post this on ff.net I will add it to my C2...something to think about

How can you write Happy Valentine's Day after such a story? My little pink fluffy heart is breaking for this poor woman and you say Happy Valentine's? lol Excellent job Jaye! This is truly amazing. You can feel her pain. It's almost tangible. I'm very impressed and very jealous you are a Gryffindor! Excellent job, Poppy! Keep them coming. Mona
