I was just going to post a poem, but I decided to show the process of coming up with just the perfect one, so...this is it:
(what is written on parchment is in italics)
___ ___ ___
The greenest eyes and lightest laugh and most perfect little nose, could hardly just start to describe my lovely lady's pose.
"No, decided Albus, scratching out the least bit.
The greenest eyes and lightest laugh and most perfect little nose, could hardly just start to describe my lovelylady's pose Minerva Rose.
"But her middle name is NOT Rose," he grumbled aloud, "It's Rosalyn. That's sort of like Rose...Maybe if I change Rose..."
The greenest eyes and lightest laugh and most perfectlittle nose, could hardly just start to describe my lovely lady's pose Minerva Rose.
"But now what have I got?"
The greenest eyes and lightest laugh and most perfect could hardly just start to describe my lovely
"I will begin again."
One day while walking, what did I see? A vision of beauty, right in front of me. Hair so long, black as ebony, a pring in her step, she was walking towards me. As she got closer I could see her eyes, emerald green and sparkling like
"Flies? Sighs? Cries? What else rhymes with...Well, a poem does not have to rhyme, I suppose." Albus scratched his chin with the edge of his quill, leaving a little black ink on his long, white beard.
Minerva, shall I compare thee to a winter's night...because a summer's day would nto be original.
Albus laughed out loud after writing that, but then sighed with the realization he still had little to show for his efforts. He had been trying all afternoon to come up with just the right poem to give Minerva that night, their one-month anniversary as a couple. Was it really only a month ago? It felt like they'd been together forever...and yet, it seemed that no time had passed at all since that night.
It has been but a month,
And I love you more every day
I have loved you so long
Yet I knew not what to say.
Finally I did it,
I just went and took the plunge
And lucky me! You loved me back
and then
"That won't work. But it's honest. But plunge and ... what?"
It has been but a month,
And I love you more every day
I have loved you so long
Yet I knew not what to say.
Finally I did it,
I just went and tookthe plunge your hand
and said, please, Min, be mine,
And lucky me! You loved me back
and then
and took your hand
and said 'please, Min, be mine'
I love you now, I loved you then
And I will 'til the end of time
So please, Minerva, I ask you this,
Love me for all your life
Because I'll love you all of mine
Minerva. Be my wife?
Albus grinned. He had not meant to make the poem a marriage proposal, but as he had been feverishly writing, that was what he ended up with, and it filed him with joy.
"Albus?"
He heard a voice from the doorway to his chambers and he jumped up.
"Minerva! I...I am working on your gift!"
"Oh!" She smiled. "May I see?"
"It is a poem, but It's a mess, all cross outs and..."
"Read it to me, Albus?"
He returned her grin. "You might want to have a seat," he said, and a moment later the two were side-by-side on his little purple couch.
Albus cleared his throat and began to read.
It has been but a month,
And I love you more each day
I have loved you so long
Yet I knew not what to say.
Finally I did it, I gently took your hand
and said 'please, Min, be mine'
I love you now, I loved you then
And I will 'til the end of time
So please, Minerva, I ask you this,
Love me for all your life
Because I'll love you all of mine
Minerva. Be my wife?
And she said yes.

I know that both the end poem and the end of the fic need work, so please review and help me out! Thanks!
