Earmuffs and the Injustice of Being a Woman
By Deirdre
I don't own anything! Except maybe the earmuffs? No... I don't own those either!
Recovery really didn't work for me, although my family forced me to go I left straight away. I don't think I'll ever beat anorexia.
Minerva looked at Poppy. Poppy looked back sullenly. Minerva gestured towards the Floo powder sadly, and in a sudden violent movement Poppy stood up and snatched the bowl.
"Coming Minerva?" she said a little sharper than intended. "Let's get this over and done with."
Minerva was by her side however, before she had finished speaking. Picking up the powder, they threw it into the fireplace and stepped into the green flames.
Poppy stepped out of the fireplace, closely followed by Minerva.
"Just breathe Poppy,"
"Why Minerva? Why do we have to endure this?"
"Because we must," sighed Minerva in response as they walked out the back door of the Leaky Cauldron. "Because we must."
They stood in silence as Minerva searched for the brick that would allow them to enter Diagon Alley.
"Do we really have to?" whined Poppy, although she already knew the answer.
And as the entrance appeared and they stepped through, they were instantly hit with the utter pandemonium that was Boxing Day Sales.
Women were shrieking at each other as they scrambled to get priced down items. Shopkeepers were crying out over the din trying to sell anything and everything as children cried and moaned.
Minerva gasped when she actually saw an old lady attack a younger one for a novelty pair of earmuffs. As people rudely shoved them out of the way, Poppy pulled out a thick scroll from her pocket and unrolled it. It was so long it fell to the ground.
And at the bottom of the long list of precisely three hundred and twenty four items was:
Could you duck down to Diagon Alley to get these for New Years?
Thanks,
Albus, Severus, Alastor...
"Oh the injustice of being a woman!" cried Poppy as she looked up.
She was annoyed when Minerva wasn't there to console her, but she soon spotted her in the middle of the large crowd, fighting the old lady for the earmuffs. With a sigh Poppy crossed out item number one as Minerva came back over and dropped the earmuffs into a large bag with a wide smile.
