AN: I don’t own Harry or AD/MM but I do own my story… enjoy! Please review!
I never thought that I would lose my mind
That I could control this
Never thought that I'd be left behind
That I was stronger than you, baby
Harry followed Professor McGonagall back down from the infirmary into the corridors. They were dark and deserted, Fawkes had already left the grounds for the last time, and Minerva felt a part of her heart leave her. Fawkes had been so much a part of her life as he was to Albus. Minerva had taken care of Fawkes while Albus was gone, and Fawke’s healing song helped her mend after Harry’s fifth year. They were headed towards the headmaster’s office, Dumbledore’s office. It had not occurred to Minerva at this point that the office was hers now. She knew that she would always refer to it as Albus’s. She spoke the password and in silence they ascended the moving spiral staircase and entered the circular office. She didn’t know what to expect. A part of her was hoping to see the jovial man with half moon spectacles to turn around in his chair and greet her with a warm smile. The silver instruments were still tinkling away on the desk, and the other headmasters were snoring on the wall as if nothing had happened. She saw Harry’s eyes land on Albus’s new portrait, which was placed behind where Fawke’s perch had stood.
“Harry,” she said, “I would like to know if you found the Horocrux.”
“He told you?” Harry said a little taken back. “He said that no one else knew besides, Ron, Hermione and Me.” Minerva couldn’t help but hear the accusatory tone in his voice.
“Harry, the headmaster shared...” she paused for a moment, was she really going to reveal the secret that she had kept for the past forty years?
“Harry, I shared everything with Professor McGonagall, just like you should share everything with Miss Weasley” Dumbledore said as he looked down at his favorite two people in the world. His heart was sad, but he knew his death was the only chance Harry had at winning against Voldemort.
“I haven’t even told her about what we talked about” Harry said to him.
“Perhaps you should, if we try to protect the ones with love, it is them who are injured” Dumbledore said with a slight frown on his face.
“I don’t want to worry her,” Harry said looking away from his former Headmaster.
“Harry she is going to worry no matter what, if she knows what to worry about, at least she can sleep a little better at night” Minerva said to him.
“She is right Harry, Minerva has spent over forty years worrying about me, and if I didn’t tell her what I was doing and where I was going, my death would have been years ago.” Albus said smiling at Minerva, “She would have hexed me into oblivion.”
“He is right Harry, Ginny deserves to know the truth, and to be honest she won’t let you push her away without a fight” Minerva said to him.
“Professor McGonagall, never gave up on me, and I am grateful for that. I don’t know how would have survived with out her. Harry, I had tried to protect her at one time, I did not want her to be involved with me, in fear of endangering her life because of her association with me” Albus said looking at Harry’s face starting to dawn with comprehension that McGonagall and Dumbledore were more than friends. “She was the one who kept telling me that it was her choice to be with me, and I have a feeling that Miss Weasley will say something very similar. You can’t push away the people who love you Harry”
Just then the portrait announced to the trio, “The minister has just apparated at Hogsmeade and will be arriving at Hogwarts in 10 minutes”
“Thank you Everard” Minerva said to the portrait, “Harry you better go before Scrimgeour and the Ministry gets here, and put on your invisibility cloak” Harry nodded and dashed off before he was caught by the ministry.
“I never thought this would happen” she said turning back to Albus’s clear blue eyes, “Never in a millions years did I think I would out live you.” She said to him, her voice was trembling.
“My dear you are half my age, surely you thought you would outlive this old codger.” Albus said smiling his crooked smile as he looked down on her.
“I never thought that I would be left behind, that I was stronger than you” Minerva said her tears failing down her cheek.
“You know that the ones who really love us never really leave us,” Albus said as he saw how much pain was in his love’s face, “I will always be here, waiting for you, loving you, giving you advice, being your friend. You will never be left behind; you will live on, and be happy. You will live to see the end of these days; when we can rid the world of Voldemort. You will see Harry and the rest of the trio live on to become successful happy adults. You will be happy again.”
“I may see that, I will watch them grow with pride, but my heart. It will always belong here, with you” Minerva said and she put her hand up to stop Albus from talking, “I don’t want to hear you tell to find another wizard. There is no one else. When I get old and barmy like you, I commission a portrait next to yours where I can sit next to you for the rest of the Hogwarts days. And that is final” she said before going behind Albus’s / her desk and sat down.
“Don’t try to argue with that Scottish women” Phinneus said lazily to Albus, “it will get you no where but another broken nose”
