Chapter One
It was a frigid January night as Albus Dumbledore walked through the ankle deep snow. The moon light made the snow sparkle like Crystal. His eves moved from the snow to the chateau in front of him. It was the McGonagall Family Estate. He hated to be the bear of bad news, but he had to tell Minerva that her brother, Eros, was found dead in Death Eater territory. Albus knew the new would kill Minerva and he was prepared to provide as much comfort as possible.
He reached the top of the granite stone stairs and knocked on the door with the bronze door knocker. Then he waited. A few seconds later the door was opened by Minerva, who was wearing a tartan bathrobe over her nightgown.
"Oh, Albus, what are you doing here?" Minerva asked with a demeanor of confusion.
"I'm afraid I have some bad news. May I come in?" Albus replied.
Minerva nodded and moved out of the doorway to allow him in. She led him down the hall and into the sitting room, where there was a roaring fire warming the whole house.
"Well, you said you had some bad news, so let's hear it." Minerva said as she took a seat next to Albus on the couch.
"It is difficult. I wonder, where I should begin?" He sighed and looked at her. " Your brother, Eros, was found dead in Death Eater territory, and by the looks of it, he put up a good fight."
Minerva looked like she was about to faint. She raised a hand to her mouth to stifle a gasp. Eros, dead? She couldn't believe it. She didn't want to believe it. She could feel the tears rolling down her cheeks. She looked at Albus in disbelief.
"I'm so sorry, Minerva." He said sympathetically.
"I...He...Was it quick?"
"Yes."
"T-That's good, I guess."
"The Order is awaiting your plans for a funeral."
"Alright."
"Minerva?"
"Yes?"
"Are you okay?"
"Yes." Minerva lied, wiping her eyes on the corner of a tartan handkerchief.
Albus reached over and laid a hand on her knee and squeezed it.
"Thank you, Albus, for coming." She said.
"Are you sure you'll be all right?"
She nodded and smiled at him. "Yes, Albus, I'll be fine. I'll tell the Order of Eros' funeral plans at tomorrow's meeting."
Albus nodded in reply. "Then I shall leave you to be alone." He said, getting up from his seat and moving towards the exit.
"Albus?" Minerva called.
He turned to see her following him from the sitting room. "Yes?"
"Thank you, again, for coming."
"You're welcome, Minerva."
She walked right up to him. "Albus?"
"Yes?"
"I love you." She whispered softly.
Albus stared at her, unable to believe what he was hearing. They say death and destruction brought people closer together.
"Minerva?" He was now whispering as well.
"Yes, Albus?"
"I love you too." They were closer now than ever. Minerva could feel his beard brushing her chin.
"You do?"
Before they knew it their lips were touching. Minerva moaned softly. He smiled on her mouth. She kissed him harder, leaning against him, putting her arms around his neck.
When Albus heard her moan, he couldn't help but smile. The feeling of kissing her was absolutely amazing.
After what seemed like forever, but really only a minute or so, they broke. Neither of them could look away from the other. To them, it was like floating on a cloud.
"Wow," Minerva said, her insides melting.
Albus was beaming down at her. It was one of those moments he wished he could do over and over again.
"I never thought you loved me. I always thought we were just really good friends." He said.
"Albus, I've always loved you. Always. Ever since I was a student in your Transfiguration class." She said, laying her head on his shoulder. "I didn't tell you before because I was afraid you my feelings toward you would distract you against defeating He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. When you told me Eros was dead, I realized that you could die tomorrow and you would never know how I truly felt about you."
Albus was touched that she felt this way about him. He understood why she didn't tell him sooner. Now, it was his turn to confess his feelings.
"The reason why I didn't tell you was because I was afraid Voldemort would find out and hurt you. He uses his enemies loved ones to get what he wants and if he did anything to you, I would never forgive myself."
She nodded against his shoulder as her stroked her long black hair. They stood that way for awhile until Minerva placed her hands on his shoulder to push him away.
"I'm sorry I've kept you so long. You should go and get some rest." She said, looking into his exuberant, but tired blue eyes. He bent down and kissed her cheek.
"I shall see you tomarrow then." He said, opening the door behind him.
"Bye." Minerva said. He nodded and walked back out into the cold winter's night. Minerva watched him walk down the path to the iron gates and disappear. She raised a hand to her cheek where he had kissed. She went up to bed and went to sleep, wishing Albus' arms were around her.
