Minerva McGonagall emerged from the bathroom she shared with her husband of ten years dressed for bed. Contrary to popular belief Minerva preferred silk nightgowns to matronly ones when snuggling up to Albus, and this night she was wearing a sky blue number.
Sitting at her vanity Minerva moved to take her hair down, “Albus?”
“Hmm,” the aging but vigorous wizard asked her from their four poster bed.
“Would you mind getting me a pair of your socks? It’s a little chilly tonight, and I know you don’t like cold feet.”
Rising from the bed Albus retrieved his wife’s favorite pair of socks and kneeled at her bench, “If you will allow this humble knight to cover my lady’s feet in fear that they shall freeze I would be most honored and would fight all my battles in her wonderful name.”
Wiggling her toes Minerva gracefully extended her feet, “All your battles my knight?”
“All my lady; I will fight dragons, evil wizards, and all horror for your favor and in your name.”
Before Minerva could reply her stomach announced its presence with a little roar, “Hungry my dear,” Albus asked amused.
“Apparently,” Minerva responded dryly.
“Well, may I escort you to the kitchens to satisfy your appetite? We may encounter all kinds of adventures,” he added with an extra twinkle in his eye.
Summoning her dressing gown Minerva tied it tightly as she replied, “That sounds like a good idea my knight. Can I trust in your ability to protect me in case we run into unheard of dangers?”
Kissing her delicate hand Albus looped it through his while indicating he could most definitely protect her. “No harm will come to you, my lady.”
The couple set off down the first of many corridors at a leisurely pace enjoying each other’s company until Minerva felt Albus jump. Looking up it was hard for Minerva to control her laughter, for there on her husband’s head sat a toad.
“Minerva what are you trying, and not very hard might I add, to not laugh at? And what is on my head?”
“Ha-Ha! It’s a toad Albus. You look silly.” Albus’ nose wrinkled and his lip curled at her statement as he reached for the offending creature. Minerva knew her husband well, and the one thing Albus could not stand was a toad. Disdainfully he set the creature on the ground, “Whose is that?”
“It looks like Trevor, Longbottom’s toad,” Minerva replied trying to regain her composure. “On second thought give it here Albus, maybe if I kiss it I’ll get my Prince.”
Albus blanched, “You have your Prince, and you would kiss a toad?” He raised a hand to his forehead, “To think my lips have been on yours…”
Minerva laughed, “And you have enjoyed it every time. Now as to the first part I have a knight, but not a prince.”
Albus slowly closed the distance between he and his wife and he gently pushed her up against the wall, “I’ll have you know I am a knight who is a prince of a small land.” Minerva smiled softly as her husband moved her dressing gown back enough to nuzzle in her neck. Closing her eyes Minerva ran her fingers through Albus’ long hair and did not hear Professor Bins approaching.
“Hem-Hem, Headmaster perhaps you and Professor McGonagall should choose a more private place to conduct such matters.”
Startled the couple flew apart and Minerva could feel the blush seeping into her cheeks as she tightened her gown. Albus tried to think of an excuse but decided it wasn’t worth it, “We will try; goodnight Professor.”
Albus waited until the ghost had floated past before taking Minerva’s hand within his own and carrying on with their journey.
“That was so embarrassing Albus!”
“I feel like a naughty school boy, myself, but we probably should be more careful incase students are out of their beds. I will try and control myself, my dear.”
“Yes do that if you please.” However the soft smile playing about her lips let Albus know she wasn’t really upset.
As they turned the corner Minerva lost her footing, and she and Albus went crashing onto the ground just barely missing a wall. They were lying in a puddle of water, Albus leaning over Minerva.
“My dear are you alright?” Albus asked as he attempted to sit up only to slip again.
“Beside from being soaking wet my backside is a little sore.” Before either could make to gingerly stand up Argus Filch came running into view. He looked from the Headmaster, to his Deputy, and decided he shouldn’t say anything.
“We slipped Argus,” Albus spoke reading his facial expression.
“Oh, uh…yes, I’m just going to fix it Headmaster.” Without another word the caretaker moved down the corridor to the flooded bathroom. Once again on dry land Albus cast a drying charm on each, and then transfigured their night attire into new sets.
“You know, Albus,” Minerva started once they continued on their way, “I’m more convinced than ever that our students should not be out of their beds at night. One could get killed or seriously hurt in this castle. I never thought we would actually have an adventure or two.”
“I know, sweetheart, but if you are still sore from our fall perhaps I can treat you to a massage.” Minerva grinned at her husband, “I’d love that, Albus.”
A moment later and they finally made it to the kitchens. After assuring the house elves that they needed no help Minerva and Albus began rummaging through the cabinets and the refrigerators.
“Darling, how bout some strawberries?” Minerva asked from behind the refrigerator.
“Only if you include some whip cream!”
“Oh, look, there just happens to be a new container of it right here,” Minerva replied standing up to give Albus a wicked smile.
Coming over to Minerva Albus gently grazed her lips with his own, “Why don’t we take our snack back up stairs. A massage for you, some dessert for me...”
“An excellent suggestion, Headmaster, but I do believe you have an early meeting with the governors tomorrow.”
“Oh no, my dear, it was moved to the afternoon. I knew there was a good reason I wanted to do that.”
Moving out of the kitchen painting Minerva joked, “Maybe you should take Sibyl’s job; perhaps you can for see the future.”
Laughing the couple continued on their way unaware of Seamus Finnegan looking around the corner watching out for Professors. He managed to look at the same time Albus’ hand found its way to Minerva’s bottom giving it a squeeze.
Seamus turned back to Dean looking like he was going to be sick. “What, what did you see?” Recounting his tale Dean looked shocked, “You saw him doing what?”
Once back in Gryffindor tower Dean commented to Seamus, “You know I think that was the best kind of punishment Hogwarts could give us. I’m never going out after hours again to flood a bathroom or to do anything.”
“I know, man, me neither.”
