I apologize beforehand, but I just couldn’t help myself.
Minerva opened her eyes slowly as the morning sun flickered across her face. Attempting to roll over Minerva had trouble as she struggled against the man that held her firmly within his grasp.
“My dear, why don’t you just ask me to move some?” Albus asked his eyes still closed.
“Why don’t you just move a little since you see I am trying to turn,” Minerva countered in frustration.
“More fun this way,” Albus replied moving so she could turn toward him and away from the sun. Minerva raised her eyebrow in response, and the silence prompted Albus to peak out beneath one eye. Leaning down he kissed her lightly, “Now, my dear, it is the day of love only smiles no raised eyebrows.”
“Let’s just go back to sleep then,” Minerva replied mumbling something Albus couldn’t understand as she buried her face in his beard attempting to get a little bit more sleep.
An hour later Albus practically jumped out of bed excited to begin the day, and only too happy to give Minerva her Valentine’s present. As Albus bounded out of the room Minerva brought the covers over her head, and vaguely made a note to talk to Albus about his enthusiasm in the morning.
However before she could fall back asleep Albus called to her, “Minerva, you know how much I love Fawkes right?”
“Did you get him a valentine, Albus?”
“Of course not, he’d just eat it. But I decided that for your gift I was going to give you a pet! I think you would enjoy one.”
This made Minerva sit up in bed, and glare at the living room. Rising she walked into the room to find Albus crouched on the ground looking intently at something. Crossing to look over his shoulder Minerva’s eyes widened.
“Please tell me my pet is going to eat that.”
Albus made to cover the creatures non-existent ears, “Shh, he could hear you.”
“If it is even a he,” Minerva mumbled. “Albus, please tell me this is a joke.”
“Nope! I was having a hard time trying to think of which animal you could like, so I decided to start with something small and something you wouldn’t have much to do for.”
“I cannot do anything with it!” Minerva replied beginning to let her temper get the better of her.
“His name is Freddy the Flobberworm. Now you only need to feed it a few times-,”
“Albus, stop! I am not accepting this gift. You do not seriously think I am going to take a flobberworm as my Valentine’s Day gift! You are insufferable, why in the world did you think of this? No wait, you weren’t thinking at all.” Minerva fumed as she paced around her room.
“I did not think it was that awful. I realize it is not the most exciting, but I think you’ll like him if you give him a try. I thought very long about this-,”
“don’t tell too many people that, Albus.”
“Minerva,” Albus said starting to get angry, “Just try it. You never know.”
“Is this what I remind you of? When you think of a pet for me you don’t think of a kitten or something exotic? No, you think of a boring, round, fat, ugly flobberworm. Is that how you see me, Albus?”
“Of course not, you know I think you are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever known and you are very exciting and not round or fat by any means.”
“I’m not so sure I believe you. Put that thing in a box, and then leave Albus. I’m in no mood to talk to you right now.”
Albus did as he was told, and left after slamming the door. Cursing under his breath he retreated to his rooms.
Meanwhile Minerva looked in on her “pet,” and decided she should kill Albus slowly. Leaving the worm to get dressed she hurried on to breakfast hoping this was all an elaborate joke and Albus would shower her with flowers, jewelry or lingerie that evening. Then he would properly propose to be her slave for the evening.
However Minerva returned at lunch to find that Freddy was her only guest. She sat behind her desk ready to grade papers as Freddy munched on some leaves beside of her.
“Can you believe that man? Of all the gifts to give me,” Minerva said out loud looking toward her worm.
Stopping mid sentence Minerva shook her head, and mumbled to herself: “I’m talking to a Flobberworm…I have lost it. That man will not only be the death of me, but he is making me go insane.”
Albus and Minerva avoided each other for the next few days, and Minerva found herself absentmindedly feeding Freddy or talking out loud only to turn and look at the creature. On the fourth day Minerva returned from her classes to find her sitting room filled with flowers, and Albus was standing in the middle of the room holding a solitary pink rose.
“I’m sorry Minerva. I realize it was a dumb gift to give you, and I see now how you could have misconstrued the meaning. Please know that I only bought it because I had crossed out every possible creature, and it would cause the least trouble to your life.”
“If you had crossed out all other creatures, then why did you buy me a pet Albus?” Minerva asked softly not wanting to anger him.
“I just thought it would be nice to have one.”
Sighing Minerva moved to stand a little closer, “I’ve missed you.” This perked Albus’ spirits and he lifted his head to smile at Minerva, “I’ve missed you, too. It isn’t the same not talking to you, and I haven’t been able to sleep all week.”
Minerva closed the distance between them, and reached for the rose. “I take it this is for me?” Albus nodded, and then drew her into his arms. They stood there holding each other till Minerva suddenly withdrew herself, “Where’s Freddy?”
“I sent him to Hagrid, is that alright?”
“Well don’t you dare tell a soul, but I’d gotten used to the little guy but I think Hagrid’s is a better place for him. But you and I need to talk about the appropriate gifts to give me from here on out.”
“What if I stick to jewelry, clothes, books, traveling expenditures, flowers, and ginger newts?”
“That sounds lovely. These flowers are a great start, by the way, thank you.”
“So we are ok, then? You forgive me?”
“Of course, Albus; I’m sure we will laugh about this for years to come, well more I’ll laugh at you,” Minerva teased leaning up to kiss his cheek. “Though there is one way in which you can completely atone…” Minerva started kissing his neck lightly.
“And what would that be?”
“What do you think?” Minerva asked starting to unbutton Albus’ ornate robe. Grinning widely Albus checked to make sure the door was tightly locked, and then picked Minerva up to continue his apologizing in her bedchamber.
