You’re giving me a headache (based on a true story)
Minerva sat down wearily on the sofa and slipped her feet out of her shoes. The ache in her toes was so great. Her head was throbbing from all the misfired spells that her first year students had performed. All she wanted was a bowl of soup, bath, and bed.
Maybe it would be better to sleep first. She closed her eyes and savored the loosening of tight muscles in her back. She just needed to relax for a few minutes.
SLAM!
Minerva opened her eyes with a start. Albus had entered with his arms full of metal objects. He had to use his foot to close the door.
“My apologies, Minerva. Were you asleep?”
Minerva sighed. “I was trying to sleep.” She watched as he carried the items to the dining room table and dropped them on the polished tabletop.
“I hope you don’t mind my working at home tonight. The elves have been asking to clean my office for weeks and I promised them they could do it tonight.”
Minerva sighed. “I was going to make it an early night. I am so tired.”
Albus walked to Minerva’s side and took a seat. He ran his hand down her arm before placing a light kiss to her forehead.
“Why don’t you have a bath and I’ll bring you supper in bed? By the time you are finished eating, you can drop right off to sleep.” He gave her hand a squeeze before rising and helping her to her feet. A gentle push sent her in the direction of the bathroom and Minerva smiled at the thought of a long soak in a scented bath.
Thirty minutes later she was as tense as ever. Various crashes and explosions from the dining room had kept her jumping in shock and she had been unable to relax. She rose from the tub and dried off. Albus was probably hurrying so he would be finished by the time she was ready to sleep.
The anticipated meal was a bowl of lukewarm soup and a couple of rolls. A wave of her wand reheated the soup and Minerva ate most of it before drowsiness overtook her. Setting her tray on the table near the bed, she closed her eyes.
Four hours later Minerva was still awake. The crashes and curses from the other room had finally ceased a few minutes before but her head was pounding.
The door opened and Albus entered.
“Dearest, you’re awake.” He seemed pleased. “I was hoping a nap would refresh you and we could spend a little time together tonight.” His eyes lightened hopefully.
“Not tonight Albus, I have a headache.”
