A/N: Just a silly drabble, I'm afraid, but enjoy nonetheless . Oh 'Something To Talk About" is a song by Bonnie Raitt.
Something To Talk About
“Minerva McGonagall,” Rolanda Hooch stated.
“It’s high time for some action.”
A set of yellow fingernails tapped the pale green table cloth, leaving little sparkles every time they went up again. On a normal day, on a normal occasion, this would have earned the Flying Instructor a glare at least, possibly a stern reprimand- but this time, it was very clear exactly who was reprimanding whom.
“Rolanda, honestly-” Minerva started- the tone of her voice unusually close to pleading.
This was the girl who’d been Head Girl for a year- and Prefect for the two before that. This was the girl who’d been an Auror, who had fought Grindelwald.
“Yes, Minerva, let’s talk about honesty for a bit. New Year’s resolution, ring a bell?”
Yellow eyes met green ones- and as Minerva lowered hers, she knew that for the first time in her life, she was losing an argument against Rolanda Hooch. And she did not like it at all.
Raising her chin in a last attempt to defend herself, the black-haired witch shook her head.
“You can’t possibly expect me to keep to anything I might or might not have said on that doomed New Year’s Eve… I was drunk and so were you- though at least in your case, it was your own fault.”
The blame in her voice was obvious, but Rolanda was not to be distracted.
“Well, you needed to loosen up a little, Min. And you cannot deny that you’ve been having a life-long crush on the man- oh don’t deny it!”
“I was not trying to!”
Only as a huge, sickening smile spread over her best friend’s face, Minerva knew she had made a horrible mistake. Once more, sheer irritation had taken over- and had jumped right back into her face.
“Let’s give them something to talk about…”
And that was exactly the only line Minerva remembered as, inwardly cursing her friend and feeling like something very close to a blundering idiot, stood in front of the man who’d been her mentor for years and her friend for just as long.
“Let’s give them something to talk about-”
And for some reason, it was only minutes later that she could properly complete her question- deciding that she who’d been so straightforward for all her life could just as well live that particular trait to the full.
“How about love?”
