‘Minerva!’
‘Albus…’
Their hands united, in the green light. Their eyes connected.- light glittering blue and bright green. ‘Together for ever!’ Then the green light grew stronger. Someone yelled a curse, a terrible curse, but the hatred of the voice, was even more terrible.
‘No!’ Minerva McGonagall woke up, crying, drenched in cold sweat. Her long, black hair was a total mass, spreading all over the pillow. She got up and sighed, looking around: it was all fine, she was in her bedroom, there was no green light, it had been just a nightmare, a simple nightmare. She took a deep breath. Then she got up and walked to the mirror set on one of the walls, opposite to the four-poster bed. She looked at her reflection for a few moments her green eyes were shining brightly; her black hair was reaching her waist and she had rather red, thin lips. She started brushing her hair. She had been having this strange nightmare over and over again for a while now. Every time it seemed to be even worse… it was odd, she didn’t believe in things like divination…but she couldn’t deny it was odd, she had never had the same nightmare more nights in a row…And it was again something strange, the way she felt about it, it seemed like…it was some kind of …warning. She washed her face with icy water. She couldn’t let her students, or her colleagues see her with puffy red eyes, and most certainly not Albus. She dressed up, and tied her hair in her usual bun, her thoughts still lingering upon the strange dream. She walked down to the great hall, trying to hide her distress.
‘Minerva! Good morning!’
‘Oh! She had almost walked into him. His blue eyes were twinkling and his voice seemed light and cheerful. ‘Hm…hm…good morning!’
‘Are you all right, Minerva?’ he asked throwing her an anxious look.
‘Yes, yes, I’m fine.’ she answered.
Professor McGonagall hardly ate at all at breakfast that day. Dumbledore was eyeing her with concern. Came to think of it, she had been eating very little at meals, lately, and she was looking troubled. Dumbledore wasn’t the only one to see this, most of the students and staff had guessed that something was going on.
‘Hey, Ron!’ Harry nudged his friend in the ribs. Ron who was swallowing a particular large piece of pie chocked. ‘What?!’ ‘Look!’ said Harry gesturing to the staff table. ‘Look at McGonagall! Oh, and Dumbledore, he seems to notice something odd, too.’ ‘Yeaa…’
‘What are you staring at, you two?’ Hermione sat down in front of Harry and started putting marsh potatoes on her plate.
‘Hermione, look at McGonagall!’ said Ron leaning closer to her over the table.
‘Hm…she’s been acting like that for a wile, yea…’ said Hermione.
Later in the common room, Hermione was reading in front of the fire and Ron was sitting near her, looking at the portrait from time to time. Harry had been told to go to Dumbledore’s office, half an hour ago.
‘Harry!’ Hermione turned.
‘He’s found one, Dumbledore’s found another horcrux, I am going with him, have this, the Maroarders’ map and the felixfelicis, you have to patrole the corridors, try to contact the other DA members, listen!, Snape knows Dumbledore’s out of the castle tonight, he and Malfoy can have another go on…whatever he’s hiding in the require room, I don’t have time to explain! He added when Ron and Hermione tried to interrupt. He grabbed the invisibility cloak and stormed out the portrait hall.
‘…I’ll go get Ginny’ said Hermione climbing the girls’ bedrooms.
At the meantime…
What is this whole thing about, Minerva? Getting us all out of bed in the middle of the night…’ Slughorn’s voice died off.
The other teachers didn’t seem thrilled either. Madam Pompfrey was rubbing her eyes and Madam Hooch was dozing of onto the wall of McGonagall’s office
‘Listen! It’s Professor Dumbledore’s orders that we patrolled the corridors, for extra protection during his absence!’ said Professor McGonagall.
‘But, where is the headmaster?’ asked the charms teacher.
‘Yes, indeed, what is so important that Dumbledore has to leave in the middle of the night?’ asked Professor Slughoarn.
‘Horace, Filius… I don’t know more than you do, but I trust Albus… I know that this must be really important and that if he wants us to patrol the corridors, he has his reasons.’ sighed Minerva.
‘You don’t honestly want us going around trusting the man blindly, like you do, Minerva? asked the fat bold man.
Minerva glared at him.
The door opened.
‘You called us, Professor?’ asked the young werewolf. Behind hem stood a mousy haired Tonks, bill and the rest of the order of the phoenix.
The corridors were silent. The only sound was that made by her cloak. She kept seeing the green light over and over again. Her head was hurting and she felt, knew, that something was going wrong, very wrong…
To be continued.
