Hey everyone, this is my first fic so be nice to me.

Summary: Athena Waters is orphaned and sent to live with a cousin. There she discovers the Magical World.

Chapter One-Orphaned

Ten year old Athena Waters stood alone in the dark, watching the firefighters put out the house fire in front of her. Tears came to her eyes as she watched her house burn to the ground.

Athena looked around the crowd. There were no familiar faces among them.

"Athena Waters?" A police officer asked.

"That's me," Athena said wiping the tears from her cheeks.

"I'm sorry. Your parents were found dead in the house. They died of burns and smoke inhalation. You're to come with me to the orphanage until we can contact one of your relatives."

"I have no family. My grandparents are dead and I have no aunts or uncles."

"That may be true, but I was told you had a distant cousin in Scotland, so we're going to try and contact her."

Athena nodded and followed the police officer into his car.

Chapter Two-The Letter

Minerva McGonagall stared out into the moors. A letter laid opened on her lap.

Dear Ms. McGonagall,
We send you our condolences of your second cousins' death. We are writing to ask you a favor. Dan and Samantha's daughter, Athena, is coming to Scotland to stay with you. If you don't like the planned arrangements, please write back and we will think of something different. You will have one hundred percent custody of her. She will be arriving Saturday, June 29 at ten o'clock in the morning. Please meet her at the London Orphanage.

Athena Waters was Minerva's third cousin. Minerva's aunt, Eithne Donald, was Athena's great-grandmother. Eithne was a Squib and all her descendants turned out to be Muggles.

How was Minerva suppose to explain the whole Magical World to a Muggle child? That's it! She wouldn't tell Athena anything until the Hogwarts school year started again. It would be hard, but it was possible.

Chapter Three-Arrival

"I'm here to pick up Athena Waters."

Athena lifted her head up to see a tall, stern looking woman with raven black hair and emerald green eyes.

"She right there," the woman behind the desk said.

Athena got up from the bench upon which she was sitting and timidly walked to Minerva's side. She had only one small suitcase.

Minerva examined the girl. She had the McGonagall features. She was tall and slender with dark auburn hair and hunter green eyes. She was nervous and shaky.

"Is that all you got?" Minerva asked.

"Yes, ma'am." Athena said.

"Well come along, we have a train to catch."

The train ride to Scotland was long and silent. Athena looked out the rain covered window while Minerva read a book.

"What should I call you?" Athena asked her new caregiver.

"You may call me Minerva. Not Min or Minnie. Just Minerva.
