This is the first chapter of my Secret Santa gift to Nerweniel.
Title: Love and Memories (I stole the title from O.A.R. hah.)
Rating: PG, to be safe?
Summary: An As Time Goes By/HP crossover. Jean and Minerva were friends back in primary school, but haven't been in contact since Min's days as a Hogwarts student. When Minerva pulls out an old photo album and finds photos of them together, she decides it's time to reconnect with an old friend.
Oh, and unfortunately I own neither the characters from ATGB nor from HP. Unfortunately.
*************************
Minerva removed a torn and tattered photo album from the highest shelf above her desk. She couldn’t recall the contents of the album, and took it down to see what was in it. When she opened it, a smile spread across her face. It was one of her many childhood photo albums; this particular album covered her primary school days, the days before Hogwarts and her entrance to the wizarding world.
She found photographs of herself and her parents, but mostly, photographs of herself with friends. The entire second half of the album was dedicated to her and her best friend, Jean Pargetter. Oh, how she missed Jean! They hadn’t spoken much since her days as a student here at Hogwarts; they had lost contact, essentially, and grown apart from each other as their lives changed and evolved. Minerva wondered what Jean was doing now, if she was married, if she had found her true love. She wondered where Jean was living, if she had children, how she was doing. Perhaps, she thought, it was time to find out.
Minerva picked up a piece of parchment and her quill, and wrote “Dear Jean,” at the top. Suddenly, she realized something--what was she going to say? Hi, Jean, I know I haven’t talked to you in nearly forty years, but I thought I’d say hello?
Hm. It could just work.
Dear Jean,
I know it’s been dreadfully long since we’ve been in contact, but I was browsing through some photo albums earlier and found photos of us together from primary school. Oh, how I miss those days, Jean! I wanted to speak with you, find out how you are, how your life has been since we last spoke some forty years ago. I miss you terribly, and would like to get together with you. Do you think that would be possible, even after all these years? I would love for you to meet my husband, and I am certain that you have a love of your own. Please, write back straight away. I have missed our friendship.
Best,
Minerva McGonagall-Dumbledore
It occured to Minerva that Jean knew nothing much about her world--nothing about Albus being the greatest wizard of the time, nothing about Voldemort, or Harry Potter....nothing. It was time--past time--to remedy this.
She crossed the room to where Fawkes rested on his perch. “Fawkes, please take this letter with great care, and do not be alarmed--you are delivering it to a Muggle woman.”
Fawkes nuzzled her hand in understanding, and just like that, was gone.
