The first Tea With Mussolini/Jean Brodie Fanfiction EVER!
Jean Brodie Meets Lady Hester Random
Jean Brodie walked down the Florentine streets to Doney’s, the crème de la crème of places to see and be seen in Florence. She nodded politely to the doorman and walked into the dimly-lit dining room.
Ensconcing herself comfortably at a small table, she was able to see the entire room. She ordered a pot of Earl Grey tea, sat back, and surveyed the other occupants.
“Why shouldn’t Mussolini have an empire? All the best people in Europe have empires!” a well-dressed woman exclaimed.
Jean abandoned her tea and approached the woman and her two male companions, who immediately stood up and inclined their heads.
“Pardon me, but I could not help overhearing. I’m Jean Brodie,” she said, shaking the hands of the standing gentlemen before taking the woman’s proffered hand.
“I am Lady Hester Random. My late husband was his Britannic Majesty’s ambassador to Italy.”
Jean took the seat offered by the younger man and quickly became engaged in conversation with Lady Hester.
Back at Marcia Blaine, Jean Brodie recalled that day at Doney’s.
“I myself mingled with such a crowd. I wore my red silk dress with poppies, which is right for my colouring…”
As she continued showing the slides of her last holiday in Italy, she thought back to that day at Doney’s with Lady Hester. She had, indeed, mingled with such a crowd – she, Jean Brodie, descendant of Willie Brodie, was truly in her Prime, and that trip had certainly convinced her of that fact.
