What do you think Dumbledore saw in the Mirror of Erised? I don't remember this question actually being answered in the books because Harry felt Dumbledore wasn't being honest with him about the socks.

Good answer, nerva! I have some ideas that, if they stay with me, I will elaborate on later. Right now I'm too tired to concentrate on deep thinking. lol

Though I would like to say that he sees Minerva and himself together, I think I had better go with a grown up thing (though it pains me)....I think he sees the wizarding world at peace!

I think Dumbledore sees a safe wizarding world. One with no Voldemort or imminent dangers to those living in it. If he doesn't see himself and Minerva as partners, I still bet that he still sees her standing right beside him, as happy as ever.

Doesn't Dumbledore say that evil is always around and it is just a matter of what we do when it rises somewhere in either OotP or HP? So I have to agree I don't think it is peace Albus sees but socks. There is a essay about why socks would be what the Greatest Wizard would want to see because then it would mean he isn't carrying the burdens of the world on his shoulders, that the wizarding world is safe. www.hp-lexicon.org/essays/essay-socks-sandra.html is where the essay is if you want to read it. It makes sense.

Ok I change my answer. I think Albus sees 3 things all wrapped into 1. Himself and Minerva together, while he's wearing wool socks, in a world of peace.

I think he sees a world where he's free to do what he wants, where no one gives him books 'cause he's "the person who will save the wizarding world", as the world doesn't need saving. And Min would be next to him of course, because he'd be free to love her in public because there would be no war and she wouldn't get hurt. He sees peace- and that peace involves some other things... And there's always that absolutely wonderful story (I wish I could remember what it was) in which he wanted socks because it was a McGonagall family tradition to give socks to the person they love. ^^

Somehow I don't see that he sees just socks because that would mean that he is perfectly content and without worry. We've all seen Dumbledore at several points when he is worried about something.
