I've just realised what's sometimes bugged me about Maggie's Minerva that I could never quite put my finger on. Glasses! On, now I look, a fair selection of pics of her as Min she doesn't have glasses on!
It's taken me how long to realise it... Oh dear. But still, glasses!!!

Yep. I've noticed that too. It doesn't bother me, though.

I noticed that a long time ago. She wore her glasses more in the first movie than any of the others. I think they are part of what makes her Minerva. They are a defining characteristic of her and a part of her animagus form. Seems as though she should be wearing them, but then too, she should have black hair, and Harry should have green eyes and black hair.
I understand why Harry doesn't have green eyes. I read somewhere on one of the sites that they tried having Dan wear green contacts in the first movie and his eyes reacted badly to them.
But how hard is it to have Minerva wear glasses and have black hair. After all, Jason Isaacs wears a long, blond wig, and Michael Gambon wears a wig and a beard. Why can't Minerva wear a black wig?

The glasses, or lack of, don't bother me as such, but she really needs them, the hair I can deal with, she looks like she fits with Albus more But yeah, glasses, she ought to have them, really.

You know? I never really noticed that, either.! Maggie pulls it off well.. But there IS something that seems.. Unrealistic (ha, using that word about HP...) about that. Maybe it's something that JKR said had to change with the movie..? I've heard of certain things having to be changed because of a publishing company or.. Something. Don't shoot me; I'm just stupid.

Yeh I've noticed it too! It's funny because the Minerva McGonagall in my mind and the Minerva McGonagall in the movies are two very different people! However, Maggie Smith does and awesome job in the movies and the physical potrayal of Minerva works well for the movies so...

Maggie was a perfect match to the McGonagall in my mind. I didn't really mind her without the glasses. Although they were important to her character.

I think part of it is that Minerva was in her 40s-50s in JK's mind during the books but when Maggie was suggested as Minerva JK was all for it. I read this somewhere mugglenet possibly. So we see Minerva as being a younger looking woman with glasses but the filmakers see her as being older. I'm not complaining, though. In my fics I see her as looking younger, but I adore Maggie and I think it's so cool she's the one cast as Minerva.

Hmm, I always imagined Min older, not 40/50, maybe because of the other older teachers.

Yeah, I've always imagined an older Min too. Probably because of the way she's always interacted with Albus.

I havent noticed it, in the books, i always see Minerva older... like 60/70. but when i think of her with albus... well i think of her like in her 20 sometimes. and other in her 30 and 40 and 50 and so on. i guess it all depends on how the fan fic writers decide to have her act, and how they describe her. In my storys i very on her age.
