*Warning: Contains spoilers for book 7 (At least I think so)
Ok so don't hold me to it && don't ask me how i found out or anything, but somehow i heard that the last line in the book is (spoiler time)
"Harry, where has your scar gone?"
I think Ron says it, but I'm not sure. If someone already posted it && that's how i found out, then I'm sorry, but I thought just in case...

Isn't the last word so far going to be 'scar' not 'gone'?
I'm sceptical, until I read it in the book or I hear it from Jo herself I'm not going with that. Besides, anyone could have made that up (I'm not saying you did, but somewhere down the line anyone could have).
And I don't believe Jo would finally end the entire series with a question we couldn't get answered.

Yeah, I've heard the last word would be "scar", but that would be a good guess as to what the line would be about...

[glow=blue,2,300]omg!!! i so hope that is the true ending of the book. I would love JKR to actually use it. IT WOULD MEAN THAT SHE DIDNT KILL OFF HARRY!!! and it would also mean that there would be an easy way to write more books if she wanted to but could also be a sturdy ending. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D[/glow]

I persoally hope that she doesn't choose to end it in that way. It just seems like a let down compared to the rest of the series. But that's just my opinion anyway... prodigy

Apparently JKR told a waitress in an obscure cafe before the 'Harry Potter Phenomenon' that the trio would live through the series. Don't know if that's true, and she may have changed her mind.
Q: would she actually let the scar disappear? Vanishing the scar would be like Harry coming out of the war as someone else.

I persoally hope that she doesn't choose to end it in that way. It just seems like a let down compared to the rest of the series. But that's just my opinion anyway... prodigy *Agrees wholeheartedly* It would be a completely shocking and awful ending. No finality, no real closure, it doesn't fit, his scar is part of who he is no matter what anyone says. And completely.. well, childish. And I know it's a children's book, but I would quite honestly prefer 'And he woke up and it was all a dream' to that. And ending with a dream is a really bad ending I know. But still, that's how much I dislike it. It would be like wiping everything away. I truly hope in my heart of hearts none of the trio die, I can't grieve over another fictional character. Though if she did, I completely disagree that it would end her career in many people's eyes since she's never going to let Voldemort win, that's not what this is about but that isn't to say that one or more of the trio could die. I've grown up a potter kid, I'm 17 now, and the death of another much loved character would be, well, acceptable, because you know how it's a war? That. The good side won't lose, but some of them will die. It's perfectly imaginable for it to be one of the trio still firmly fitting with the themes of the story. I apologise if I came across very strongly, I meant no offence to anyone but I do have strong views on this. I don't want anyone else to die, but they are going to.

OK, so the first rule of the Harry Potter Fandom is 'don't believe anything if you don't hear it from JKR herself'. Back in 1999 in an interview with People Magazine, Jo said: "I constantly rewrite... At the moment, the last word is 'scar.'" ( www.accio-quote.org/articles/1999/1299-people.html) And she reinforced this in her interview with Melissa Anelli (Leakynews.com) and Emerson Spartz (mugglenet.com) in July 2005, saying that the last word of book seven is "still scar". ( www.accio-quote.org/articles/2005/0705-tlc_mugglenet-anelli-2.htm) That is all she had ever told us about the final chapter of book 7, and even so, it is possible that this could be subject to change in the course of writing the final book. It seems that this rumor you have heard has been skewed from the facts that we have so far gleaned from Jo - a very common problem within the fandom, as I am sure you all know! www.accio-quote.org/ is a fantastic website for finding all the legitimate quotes about the Harry Potter series that you could ever possibly want!

Yeah, as far as we've heard the last word is still "scar." Personally, I wouldn't like it if she ended with the quote in the first post. It's like nemi said... he'd be coming out of the war a different person.

I wouldn't mind if the scar was gone -- it did define Harry during his school years, but so did Voldemort's existence. If Harry lives, he will be a different person than he was before -- first, Voldemort's gone, and he can live rather than merely survive, and second, he's been through all kinds of loss, challenge, pain, etc. He grows up in those seven years and that in itself is a change. If he lives, he'll be free of the forces that drove and shaped his life since he was two years old. I hope he lives, because if he doesn't, I think that will mean that V lives. I think it's an "either-or" situation. I suppose it's possible for them both to die, but that would really and truly suck.
Anyhow, just my two cents!
