Well I was in a depressed mood (I had to help euthanise a cat) and was reading through my fav fanfics and found HEAPS of extremely sad ones that for some reason I still loved. And seeing as they didn't involve ADMM I thought I'd put this thread here. Anyway here are mine:- 'I Don't Know How to Let You Go' by REMUS IS DODGY (if you don't feel even slightly sad in this one there is something wrong with you. The link is: www.fanfiction.net/s/2146676/1/'A Perfect Fit' by Minbus (this one is ADMM actually) www.fanfiction.net/s/2813161/1/'March 15th' by Pier (this is ADMM too...but most aren't!' www.fanfiction.net/s/3201499/1/'The Dance' by Lady Knight 1512 www.fanfiction.net/s/3101821/1/'The Pain' by Hekko (I bawled) www.fanfiction.net/s/3094781/1/AND 'What She's Doing Now' by Laura Kay (this is more bittersweet) www.fanfiction.net/s/1335192/1/Well there you have it! Any others you can think of? So if I need a cry I can just come here? lol

Question for you all: Why, if you are sad, do you read sad fics? Why not read things that will make you smile like fluff and humour fics? Don't sad fics just make you feel worse?

well for me it depends, sometimes I would agree with you and other times, I need to read depressing fics, listen to sad music and wallow a little bit

Well I had to put a kitten down today so I'm super sad and when I'm sad I have a tendency to make myself sadder by reading (or writing) sad fics. That's why 'Sway Me Smooth' had a sad ending. I considered making it happy for about three seconds then I had a SAD SAD day at work (I had to help put a dog down) and decided that everyone else must be sad too! Speaking of sad fics...I need some more.

Littlemorgsi when I'm sad I find that being 'cheered up' never works. I just have to let it pass. For me the best way is to read something sad, listen to sad music etc untilI feel better.

like when I finished HBP...I was in the car and was crying pretty hard. I had my cd player and I tried listening to some happy music, but the love songs and light melodies just made me feel worse. So I listened to only the faster, angrier songs and that made me feel lots better.

I love the whole Marth 15th series. They are great but incredibly sad. I keep hoping for a happy ending! When I am sad I tend to pray and sing a lot. But then I tend to pray and sing a lot everyday. Sting and Sam Moore were on the Charlie Rose Show the other night for a song they put together. Sting was talking about his new album, Songs from the Labyrinth, and how Melancholy is a useful emotion. And that we tend to talk about depression and forget melancholy, but really melancholy is more accepting the sad world but trying to see the beauty in it, which is better than just being down. It was a really interesting show. I love his new album. Who would think Sting and the lute would go together so well?

But there have to be some more sad fics! Please tell me! The only pre-requisite is that MM must be in them (fav character and all)

Singing is nice... But I either wallow or just cry and cry till I sleep. Usually works except the nixt morning, I will get big eyebags.. ~~

March 15th series? Does that exist? Happy birthday to me, how very angsty ;D. When I am sad, I do kind of prefer sad fics... no idea why. I am just a very angsty kid and I read horrid medical thrillers in the middle of the night when I can't sleep, so I guess I'm just weird .

I can understand all that I guess. I suppose I'm just speaking from the experience of having had depression several years ago. In the short term the sad stuff helped, but in the long term it only made me worse. If I'm just having a bad day sometimes angry music is the go, but if its something longer term, I need to do something else or I get caught in a rut. Listening to slow jazz can help then. Its soothing, but not generally 'happy'. I steer clear of angsty fics though, even when I'm happy.

Understandable. I like angst, alot, but I can see where you would want to avoid it.

I thought I was doing quite well until I read 'The Dance'... then I just started crying.
I actually prefer reading sad fics when I'm sad... being sad about something new makes me forget what I was originally sad about.
