Hi everyone, So, as you might or might not know, Lies and I will go to London over Whitsun to see Celia Imrie on stage. ;D Yeah, so anyway, we wanted to give her some flowers but at the moment it seems rather difficult to find a flower shop in London. Can anyone give us a hint? Someone suggested Tesco's but that's not really an option actually. Uhm... what else... oh, right, does anyone have a clue about prices for roses? Called at some delivery service but they told me we'd have to spend 60+ GBP. Just not sure if they don't deliver for less or if you don't get anything for less. Tried to call at Boots Flowers but apparently that number doesn't work from here... at least some weird voice always told me that the number's incomplete - when I hadn't even finished dialing. Wtf! Anyways, would be cool if someone could help. I have a whole day to hunt down any flower shop so hey. *g* Preferably one which is open on Sunday too but Whitsun isn't a public holiday in England, right? (God, I love and adore the country already. ;D) Thanks and love, Rikki

Whitsun isn't a English public holiday ! Flowers from tesco's (giggle) Rose's are of course mega expensive (Well unless you go to tescos that is). I honestly don't know London well enough to recomend any flower shops but I know a few internet sites if you can't find one

Flowers from tesco's (giggle) That's what I thought. I sure as hell won't give Celia flowers from Tesco's. I'd rather nick some from the Queen or something. ;D Anyways, we already noticed that roses are horridly expensive in England... for whatever reason. But I'd be grateful for any internet sites you can recommend.

I don't live in London and can't really help with specific flower dealers as opposed to supermarkets, but I think I may be able to help you with the phone number. You said that it doesn't work from where you are- when I went to Prague and Vienna, to call my home phone and/or a mobile that was being used in England, I had to add 0044 to the start of the number. You take off the 0 in the area code, and then add 0044 (the code for Britain) and the rest of the number. So, London's code being 020, if the number was 020 123 4567, you would change it to 0044201234567. That worked in Austria and the Czech Republic and while we were on the road (we went by coach, ugh, 28-hour journey) we passed through France and Germany and it worked in France too, although it was the middle of the night as we passed through Germany, unfortunately... Hope you enjoy your visit to England

Yeah, I know, thanks. ;D But problem is that it's not an ordinary phone number but one starting with 0871. Couldn't find one with the regular London area code, that was the problem. But thanks anyway.

If it's 0871 you just change it to 0044871! Just take off the 0 at the start. You could also try just calling the actual Boots branch rather than Boots Flowers? Also go to this link: www.near.co.uk/florist-london/859/That has a list of lots of florists in London, with their telephone numbers (as they would be called if you were in Britain, just change the start to 004420 instead of 020 to call from Germany). Hope that helps

I'm sorry, I'm an American, I don't understand. What is Tesco's and why are flowers from there funny...unless of course, they don't sell flowers. Just curious.

Tesco is a British supermarket! I can't really explain why it's funny to buy flowers from there. It's really just because "it's Tesco". www.tesco.com/Have a look ^^"

Nemi's right it is just tescos... but they do sell flowers but they are always horribly cheap and shabby the kind that if you recieved them you would say 'oh you shouldn't have' and mean it It just doesn't work in my mind tescos and flowers do not go ! I honestly have no idea why roses are so expensive here I think it's just because that when flowers are given espacially for a romantic gesture roses always seem so important. To recieve roses is quite a thrill for some

Waitrose on the other hand is a completely different story!! Being a more upmarket supermarket and more expensive, the flowers area better quality...but that still doesn't help you guys find a place to et yours from. My suggestion is there are plent of florists in london, just look in a directory or do a google search for florists in Greater London.

I'm confused!! What's wrong with just walking into a florists in the middle of London? I live in London and I'm always walking past flowers...in fact, some of the nicer bouquets can be bought off the street from stalls. If you're in central London, you will always be able to get some. Start looking round the stations/tube stations to start with. Just keep your eyes peeled and you'll find some. If you really must prepare in advance (and I suppose you want to get some sight-seeing in too), try: www.yell.comType "florists" into the search bit and "Picadilly Circus" or "West End" London into the location bit. It should come up with a big list of florists in the theatre area. What are you seeing Celia Imrie in? I'm off to see Judi Dench in Heyfever tomorrow at the Haymarket, so I will have a look around to see if I can spot any flowers nearby. mugs.x

There's nothing wrong with walking into a florists in central London. In fact, that's the plan anyway. *g* But the point is that we'd like to check in advance for prices and stuff like that, that's all. Thanks for the link anyways. Since we already know London quite well, guess we'll skip most of the sightseeing stuff for the time being and just prepare and all... and do a bit of shopping - love that Virgin Megastore at Picadilly Circus. ;D Celia will be in "Singular Women" on 4 June at the King's Head Theatre. It's part of a series of gala evenings, each one with a different artist.

Ok. So, Tesco is kind of like Walmart here. A big store where you can buy food and other items. Thanks for the link, it was interesting.

Okay, so I take back earlier arrogant comments about wandering into a florists in central London. I had a look for you this evening before I went to see Dame Judi at the Theatre Royal, and I'm buggered if I can find a single florists in the West End. Not one. All I saw was some dodgy guy selling roses in a bucket after the show.
However, now that I know which theatre you are going to, it might be easier for you:
The Kings Head, as you probably already know, is in Islington, not in the West End. So I suggest you use the link to look for florists there. Islington is in North London and has lots of shops. In fact, Upper Street (the main street in Islington) is probably a good bet for flowers. There is also a Sainsburys there, which will do a slightly better class of flower than Tesco!
Good luck anyway, enjoy your show. It's a great little theatre!

I am so envious that you got to see Dame Judi. I spent four weeks in London last summer, and now I think I went a summer too soon. Oh I wish I could see her. I'm sure you had a wonderful evening.

I mean, there are some, even in the West End. A Boots Flowers is at Waterloo Station and the Strand, then there's one at the One Aldwych hotel. Thanks to nemi sending me a link with lots of florists on it I've found one who's just across the road from King's Head Theatre. I've already ordered the flowers, we can pick them up on Sunday in the later afternoon, so everything is just perfect. ;D How was Judi, btw? And thanks, everyone, for your help. It's much appreciated. Love, Rikki

Judi Dench was magnificent. Just...breathtaking. Definitely worth trying to get tickets if you're around - I don't think it's a complete sell-out. The play is "Heyfever" by Noel Coward and it's on at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket (just off Picadilly). See it if you can.

Yeah, I know the Haymarket... haven't been in but I know where it is. ;D Hm, don't know... am not into Judi actually... don't know why but something's just missing with her. No idea what it is. But I'll see.
