Hey folks, it is our first look at Umbridge.

The other picture with Imelda Staunton, Emma Thompson, and Maggie Smith is up now. It is the scene where Umbridge tries to sack Trewlawny. It looks good. I think Umbridge looks tioo tall, but otherwise ok. She is certainly wearing pink.

Aw, Umbridge doesn't look at all like I imagined her. She's too tall, too not-ugly and too un-toadlike.

I think Umbridge looks okay. The characters are never going to look like you imagine them, but it's still a shock to see the film characters looking different. Sometimes I watch an adaption and I find myself thinking "Who's that? Oh yeah!" I do think Umbridge is too tall, looks about the same height as Minerva (major intimidation factor lost!) but the rigidly styled hair and the expression on the admittedly untoadlike face is good. And the colour of the costume is right! When's it supposed to be out? It says 2008, but then it says next July, which would be 2007.

I don't think she looks very toadlike-but she does look rather bitchy, so that's okay. This picture does give one hope for Minerva's scenes because they included this one...btw, the cloak Minerva is wearing makes her look extremely tall.

I, too, thought Umbridge looked too tall, but after looking at the picture again, I realized that she is standing closer to the camera than Emma and Maggie, therefore, that would make her seem taller compared to them.

Besides, if they can make Hagrid and Madam Maxime seem as big as they are, then surely they can make someone seem shorter than someone else.

Even if she only comes up to McGonagall's nose, Minerva can still glare down at her and be more imposing.

OOO I love those Pics! I do have to agree that that is soo not how I pictured Umbridge. Ivck. I hope Min is taller though................... now that I thinkabout it Umbridge looks soooooo much like my Global teacher Mrs. VanBuren. How weird. =]

They can certainly make someone short using trick photography if they want to. In LotR Gimli looks shorter than everyone else, but the actor is actually taller than most of them.

YAY! That makes me happy that Maggie actually gets some screen time.

And that cloak does make her look really tall...where can I find some clothes that do that? lol

I love Imelda Staunton. I'll agree she doesn't look like a toad, but I have total faith in her ability to play this part. I can't think of a movie I've seen with both Maggie and Imelda, but I can tell you from previous Staunton movies that she is really very short, so I think it's just the angle at which this shot was taken. Oh I can't get over how excited I am to see her play Umbridge! I love her costume. I majored in Costume Design for 3 years and still dabble. I can't imagine putting together so much pink and having it turn out so well. It must be a lot of fun to dress all these characters.

The Toad is a bit too tall for my taste but like people said it could be the shot. As much as I hate her I couldn't wait to see who they cast for her. She reminds me of the woman that played Mrs. Hubber on Desperate Housewives.

She does look tall, but Imelda Staunton is actually only 5 feet tall. (Maggie is 5 foot 5 inches so she still be able to look down at her). She and Maggie have acted together before in David Copperfield. (Dan Radcliffe played the young David).
