This is a picture from Wilkepedia.com...it's an orb spider and it looks exactly like the one that just appeared on my front porch!!! It's so freakin' scary! Two hours ago there was nothing, and now there's a huge web between two pillars on my porch and this guy is right in the middle of the web!

I'm very much like Ron. Spiders of any kind terrify me. I almost broke a broom once trying to kill a Black Widow spider in my garage. In fact I pounded said spider into very small particles of dust. My mother finally had to take the broom away from me to get me to stop pounding it. She kept yelling "Stop, you're going to break the broom!" and I kept yelling "It's not dead yet!" That was many years ago, but I have never forgotten it.
I couldn't look at the picture. I closed my eyes and scrolled down past it. I can't watch the scene in Chamber of Secrets where Ron and Harry go visit Aragog. Actually, I can stand Aragog, he is just gross looking, but those other smaller, black, shiny spiders that chase them...oooohhhh...they give me the willies...I leave the room when they come on and don't come back till Ron and Harry come back to Hagrid's hut. I agree wholeheartedly with Ron, why couldn't it have been "follow the butterflies". I could stand those.
Those spiders are good for the environment, they catch and eat a lot of pests. So, I don't advocate killing it, just, please, don't send anymore pics of it.

I am also like Ron, I stood on a chair screaming once when a spider ran across my floor and it was tiny. And I leave the room quickly if it's big. One once crawled across my bed and went under my pillow, I was too scared to go near it so I went and slept on the couch!
I say kill it *shivers* I wouldn't mind them if they'd just stay away from me.

I'm not terrified of spiders, but I think they're disgusting, and the farther they're kept away from me, the better. I don't know what I'd do if I lived in an area where poisonous kinds lived. I realize they're helpful little animals, but please, spiders, be helpful somewhere where I don't tend to spend time.

*In granmother-ish voice* "Aww... Be kind to the little one- He is just looking for a home!"
Spiders usually mind their own business. Just be thankful you can see it, and have the ability to crush it. ( My rule- if I can crush it, I don't mind it) Though be careful- spider bites are nasty.

I was thinking of squirting it with the water hose...maybe it would get the message. I don't think I could crush it...I only ever see it suspended in midair!

I was never afraid of spiders until I was at church camp when I was 12 or 13. There was a huge spider in the middle of the floor in our cabin. My counselor decided to spray it with bug killing spray stuff. That seemed like a good idea until it basically exploded with thousands of baby spiders which had been clinging to it apparently. We all screamed, ran out of the cabin, and rufused to go back in. They washed all our linens and clothes and switched cabins, but I have never gotten over all those little spiders. I'll help kill it. My brother lives in Jacksonville, NC, so I'd even have somewhere to stay. lol

Okay guys-it's all over, sort of. Last nigh was a repeat performance of the web building. My mom and I actually watched him make it. But today we found his hideout and swept him to the floor where I captured him in a small tupperware container. He's not dead yet, he keeps trying to get out-but I'm sure he'll suffocate eventually. If not, he's going to escape and murder me as I sleep. I'm sure this is cruel...leaving him to die in a closed tupperware container, but there it is.

Put the container in the freezer! My friend Zak is doing an entomology class project and collecting bugs. He's done that to a few. I think falling alseep and dying from the cold is a little nicer than suffocating.
Congrats on your capture!

I don't like spiders, but I do feel sorry for it now. Why don't you take it out in the country and let it go. I'm sure it can't find its way back to your house.
It could actually do some good out in the woods or in a field, and it wouldn't bother anyone.

I used to be terrified of them... now I just hate, and need them to be removed, but I can't say I'm terrified any more. *Giggles* I remember being so scared that I'd read myself to sleep. I was so superstitious, if the word 'spider' was mentioned on a page then I'd cover it up with a finger. After I read CoS, I wrote a note with the word 'basilisk' on it and firmly believed that it warded off spiders.

I shoudl have known better than to click on this. I'm like Ron as a few of you are. Can't stand spiders. When I was in 4th grade I was at my desk and looked down for a moment HUGE orb spider hanging off the edge of my deesk. I screamed my head off to put it lightly. Almost gave the teacher(that bitch she gave me a pink slip because I screamed) a heart attack.
