We understood why they were being so careful and cooperated fully but we were treated like criminals. The immigration officers were so rude and one even asked how long we had been members of the IRA !!(James is from the very south of Ireland..well away from the areas the IRA operated). When they had confirmed our identities and worked out we weren't terrorists they didn't even apologise. I lost a lot of respect for British law enforcement that day.

Hmm I cansee why you would. That about the IRA was below the belt.
Still, I blame the terrorists.

It's got to be hard though when you are suspected even whe you are obeying the law. I have taken a lot of African and African American Studies courses for my major and that has been brought up in each class. Just because people look, act, or talk a certain way, you automatically get a picture of who that person is. If my boyfriend were close I would ask him to explain it better, but it's not a conscious thing. Your brain does it because you can't possibly make judgements about every single thing, person, situation you come into contact with, so it does that by grouping. The important thing for people of our generation(s) especially, is to not let your first judgement hold true for things. Give peace a chance. It's hard to overcome, but if you bring a peaceful attitude to a situation, you'll get much more out of it. Although, I don't know what to do about customs...they scare the living daylights out of me!

They too, scare the living daylights out of me... I've seen some people though, who always judge others by how they look or their race. Its totally disgusting. My god-sis had this incident witih her boss, who shuns her and he almost called the police, just because she was an African-American and there had been someone stealing his money and he thinks that all African-Americans are theifs. In the end, the police found out that it was his partner in his buisness who stole the money. How darn ridiculous is that?... ~~

Hmm the thing with customs is that I'm just not bothered how discriminative they are, I've decided. And yeah it's easy for me to say as a white british female, but it's not. I don't want it to be like this. But I'd rather there was more discrimination towards certain people or groups of people, even if it is unfair, if it means we can all get on a plane without getting blown up.
Fucking Terrorists.
