Dame Maggie is going to be on stage at the Haymarket from 3rd March in The Lady from Dubuque. I think tickets go on sale to the general public from 20th Jan, but if you are a member of Whatsonstage.com or have booked through ticketmaster before, you can get them earlier.
Me got mine...second row from the front on the 3rd!
Those who can, GET SOME quick, before it sells out!

I paid £50 each for mine. Cost a small fortune, but it will be worth it. I'd pay a grand to see Mags...

It's called 'The Lady of Duberque'. It's about a young woman who is terminally ill and this lady (Mags) turns up and claims to be her mother. That's a really crap description, I'm sure it will be fantastic. :-)

That is SO unfair. Why do I have to live in Australia? *bursts into tears* I was looking at Maggie Smith's theatre credits and came across "Othello" with Laurence Olivier. I thought "wow!" then I saw that it was a film too (see avatar - isn't is beautiful? (*swoons*) So let's just say a certain someone is ordering it in ASAP. If I can't go see Maggie - I will see her on my midget television screen!

Wow that AV is great. Othello is high on my list of Maggie films still to see. (not many to go now). Minniequill Maggie has appeared on stage in Australia, she did Allen Bennett's Bed Among the Lentils in the early 90's I think (That was on TV over here too...amazing) so there is always hope. She may go back... :-)

Oh I intend to go to London in a few years; so I will be going to the theatre as often as time permits. Hopefully Maggie Smith will be performing. I just need money now...lots of money... And if you want more gorgeous Maggie photos take a look at my blog - I didn't recognise her in a lot of them. There is one of her from Othello which is breathtaking (it's the first photo).

Yesterday I booked tickets for Lies, myself and two friends. *yay* We'll see The Lady from Dubuque on 11 April. Row B stalls. ;D Really a pity that front row is only on sale the day of the performance. Oh, and if you're gonna go... not sure if they actually put up the "good" tickets on ticketmaster or seetickets.com. Was only offered tickets in the rear stalls on there, so maybe calling the box office directly might be an option.

My tickets were from ticketmaster, and I am in row B, right in the middle, so I think it's just a case of getting in quick. Should be able to see right up her nostrils...

Minniquill those pics are beautiful. I love the othello ones. In one (about half way down I think) she looks like Sigourney Weaver.

Man you've got tons! They are great - there are a few I've never seen before. The one marked as Maggie and Ian McKellen, though, is actually one of her and Robert Stephens. It's the Royal Court production of Much Ado About Nothing, and is in her biography.
I liked your Judi Dench ones too!

Don't forget to check out the stage door You never know who you'll meet there. I love the stage door. When I go see shows I always go to meet the actors, and when I'm an actor I love to go to meet the fans. Have fun

Lucky,.... I'll never get to see Magsters on stage... *sighs while thinking about Maggie and looking at all Maggie movies and my poster* This is as close to her as I'm gonna get. Why does California have to be so fleckin' far from London? Flecker! *folds arms over chest and mutters to self* ~mmadlyinlove~

That's so great! I'm seeing it at the end of April. Can't wait! It's had great reviews! I heard Maggie Smith doesn't actually appear until right before the interval. That right?

Ah. Just been to see Maggie in the Lady from Debuque. I cannot say more than Waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's it???...Mugs you can't leave it there...please. I demand...no, not demand, beg for more information...lol. Not that I am obsessed or anything. ;D Mercury I love your av...and I believe you are correct, Mags character appears toward the end of the first act.

Yes, you're right, she comes on right before the curtain comes down for the interval. I wish I had known that before, as I found the first act of the play quite tedious without her. Some good performances, but...it didn't strike a chord with me. I will say, though, that as soon as Mags comes on, the whole theatre atmosphere shifts. We all sat up in our seats, and there was almost a gasp as she appeared. A great hush descended...and she looked me right in the eye, I swear!
And then in the second act, she's bloody hilarious. Judging by the content of the play, it would seem that only she could pull it off. It's not that funny, it's just the way she delivers it. And she looks FAB. She's got great legs for her age, and you wouldn't think she's 70 odd. Her mannerisms are so familiar too...the little facial quirks etc. I felt like I was watching one of her films, it was all so memorable. Think the Divine Secrets, and you've got an idea of how she plays this one.
The conversation in smoker's corner at the interval was mostly about her, and how no one really knew what the play was about, they were just there for Maggie Smith. That's why I was there, anyway. On reflection, and after seeing the second act, I don't actually think the play's all that bad. I certainly came out thinking, and wondering who exactly is The Lady of Debuque...
Enjoy, all those who are going. Don't expect to see Mags until about 9pm...

I. Hate. You. lol No really.... That is SO unfair. I just finished watching 'Tea With Mussolini' and she's just so brilliant. I don't even like that move very much! She's just so brilliant... And I have been trying to find 'California Suite' and I CANNOT find it anywhere! Or Jean Brodie. Or 'Travels With My Aunt', or 'Othello!' Can someone help me! Or do I have to resort to bribing my best friend to let me use his credit card. It didn't work last time. But I WILL win *giggles insanely* Oh! And about her having great legs: I refer to a quite from Rex Harrison 'With legs like that too..." lol (or something thereabouts)

I don't know if you're American or not but I know that Jean Broadie is only out in region 1 so probably won't be in any non-american shops. It is on www.play.com though. I've only found Othello on the net too. (I love that performance. My grandparents saw it live!) I think bribing your best friend may be the best way to go Thanks for the info mugglemin. I'm so excited! I can totally imagine her presence changing the atmosphere in the whole theatre! I read some more reviews and one of them said that even if you're the biggest Maggie fan and go to the play because of her then your patience is still tried because you have to wait so long, but then when she comes on it's just fantastic! I saw her and Judi Dench in Breath of Life and they were both incredible! I didn't like the play though and they both swore a lot but they just made it so watchable that you just sit there in total awe. Thanks jayejaye. I like my av too! She looks beautiful! I'm loving the colour of her hair in that picture for some reason. ~ Mercury

Minniequill you HAVE to see california suite. Maggie's performance is spectacular. the scene where she begs her gay husband to sleep with her is mesmerising. I asked my friend in WA the best place to get rarer DVD's and she thinks you're best bet is online...Looks like you'll need to beg for that credit card. She suggests www.dvdorchard.com.au/ or atlanticdvd.com.au/ I hope that helps. Mercury I am very jealous you got to see Breath of Life. You're right, her hair does really suit her that colour. She looks absolutly beautiful, hope I look half that good when I'm her age.. lol . I hope you enjoy the play. Jaye :-)
