Anne, of course, because she was the mother of the coolest queen in history: Elizabeth I. (and, yes, you are mad...)

This is great another history geek who can actually name all of Henry VIII's wives. I so love Catherine of Aragon even if her daughter was kind of mad. He should of never divorced her I say. Oh well the British needed an inquisition.

I think I like Catherine Parr the best. Catherine Howard could barely read. Catherine of Aragon just couldn't fathom what Henry wanted to do to her. Jane was a political pawn. Anne of Cleves is more interesting once she leaves Henry. Of course it has been a while since I read the 6 wives of Henry the VII so I may have my wives all mixed up.
The main thing I remember is: Divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived.

Got to be Anne of Cleves... she managed to keep her head and get rid of Henry! She must have had some political savvy to manage that. She was part of Mary's coronation parade so she apparently stayed on decent terms with her step children as well...
When I was young I read a book called 'My Lady of Cleves' or "Our Lady of Cleves"... something like that... it was historical fiction but I really liked it... can't remember who wrote it now, though....
I just finished David Starkes' book and the companion miniseries from BBC... Thought his take on Catherine Parr was interesting....

Oh yes, David Starkey's books are absolutely wonderful. I have "Six Wives" and "Elizabeth", both of which I geek about at random times . I agree about Anne of Cleves, by the way, she is, along with Catherine of Aragon, my second favourite. My fav is Anne Boleyn, because she must have had an incredible lot of common sense and stubbornness to do what she did- and that she didn't succeed wasn't her fault *fangirls*. Apart from her, I adore Anne of Cleves because she, as you said, actually kept her head and escaped Henry at the same time, and Catherine of Aragon, because she fought for Mary the way she did. Round of applause. And yes, I am the uber-geek . Love, Lies

I would have to say Catherine of Aragon for going up against Henry and still keeping her head, as it were.

henry VIII nerd signing in and reporting for duty. ;D i thought i was the only one my entire life...amazing what fanfiction does to you. i honestly don't know which is my fave. but it would probably be Anne Bolyn, know i spelled that wrong. my friend and i always have debates and she sides with catherine and i with anne which is odd as i am the catholic one.
i agree about david starky's books. they are sooo good.finally a history book that i don't fall asleep reading! you should see the history textbooks we got this year...ugh...but the biology books are worse. is anyone here so obsessed that their parents noticed and for your birthday only got books on the tudors? not that i'm complaining, but i still haven't finished "the fairie queene" (that is how the author spells it i think) apologise for spelling, grammar etc. but i still need to finish history homework.

I have to say my favorite is Anne Boleyn. I read this great book by Philippa Gregory called "The Other Boleyn Girl", and it's a must read. It's basically about Anne's sister, but it's good none the less.

Catherine Howard, because my English teacher once told me, "She, on the other hand, did everything that they trumped up against Anne Boelyn and then some."
Plus, Anne is just WAY too popular for my uber-underdog-dorkness to vote for. Even if I am going against my bias toward redheads.

I'm obsessed with Tudor England also, Nerweniel! I like Anne of Cleves and Anne Boleyn best, but in the end, I have to say Anne Boleyn.
I've read that book from Philippa Gregory, The Other Boleyn Girl, and I agree with you, Lady Lavendar, it is pretty awesome. Her other book, The Queen's Fool, is great too.
Gee, I never knew so many other people on these forums were Tudor geeks also. I'm not alone! ;D

We're both dorks with too much spare time, Grand-mere. ;D:P I have to say, I love all of them...so I'll just say you're mad and have too much spare time since you didn't have a button for liking them all *grin* Here, I'll show you Queen: Catherine of Aragon I like her because: She was brave to come to England knowing she'd never see her parents again I dislike her because: Hm, actually, I *can't* find much to dislike about her, truthfully. I dislike Mary during Mary's reign, but that's not Catherine's fault. Queen: Anne Boleyn I like her because: She was strong, doing her best to provide Henry with an heir and, of course, was the mother of Queen Elizabeth I. Also, Nerweniel is her too *grin* Right? She was brave even in the face of a death she never deserved...Henry and his councillors contrived the whole thing. I mean, pish, come on. Incest with her brother, and cheating with men she could barely know? The whole "trying to murder the King" angle was ridiculous too. I dislike her because: Er, I don't. I feel really sorry for her... Queen: Jane Seymour I like her because: Well, actually, I have to admire her for being the Queen Henry wanted to be buried with...but that's about it. I dislike her because: She's the reason Henry was looking to get rid of Anne. I'd say she richly deserved dying in childbirth...but I do feel sorry for Edward, losing his mother just as *growls at Henry* Elizabeth had. Queen: Anne of Cleves I like her because: I just do. I adore her...she was much smarter than to protest when the King decided to put her aside. I dislike her because: I can't dislike her, of course. Queen: Katherine Howard I like her because: Well *grin* I think she may be the only one I didn't like so much. I dislike her because: She was a bit of an empty-headed flirt...this was mainly Henry's fault for marrying such a young girl if you think about it. He drove her to her adultery I imagine. Anyway, she was guilty where her cousin was not. It's still a pity she died...she had hardly any chance at life. Queen: Kathryn Parr I like her because: She was the only Queen that managed to stick with Henry to the end of his life (of course) and brought the two Princesses and Prince together again to be something of a family. Good for her (Yes, yes, I know the girls were disowned, but *I* never cared about that. They became queens, didn't they? ) I dislike her because: She remarried so soon after the King's death, and didn't seem to notice that her new husband was being unfaithful to her...with her own stepdaughter, Elizabeth. When she did figure it out, she became cold and withdrawn toward Elizabeth...when she hadn't even initiated the whole thing...*feels deeply sorry for Elizabeth* Well! That's it, I'm a history dork like Lies and I'm proud of it! *grin* There's even a running gag in my OC world where Rolanda's daughter, Daisy, sometimes calls Minerva "Mother" because they used to be Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth in past lives...then they fall into character. Really odd, but I believe Lies started it. ~Kaylee

Catherine of Aragon, as I feel a bit sorry for her - Henry might have stayed with her if she'd been able to have a son. She was very brave to come to England, *and* she got thrown about when Henry's brother died and she was betrothed to Henry instead. That and she was really popular with the people, so she must have been a good queen. She fell victim to Henry VIII's power fetish.
I haven't read "The Other Boleyn Girl", but I hear Philippa Gregory has recently had a new book published which is called "The Constant Princess" and is all about the life of Catherine of Aragon.
Edit: She has also written "The Queen's Fool" which is about the feud between Mary I and Elizabeth I, as well as that which took place between their mothers.

I am somewhat biased in this affair. My mother's family is descended from Anne Boleyn's sister - that said 'Other Boleyn Girl.' *Waves flag* There it is, my one claim to fame.
If it interests anyone, there's something very funny going on down the female line of my mother's family. The family rumour is that we've got Anne's witch strain.

jane Semore.
I was watching a movie on the wives of Henry the 8th, and it went as far as Anne, and her life, and some of the things that she said to him before she died. It portrayed Jane as someone who was a bit too young, yet terrified to say no to the king, How could she? He wanted a son, and Anne gave him a daughter. She did say something to him to the effect that he wouldn't ever have the son he wanted, and that the line of kings would come from her child. Sad to say, Mary was the true queen.
I know, somewhere in all of it, there was Lady Jane Grey, who was Queen of England for 9 days. She was just 14, didn't want to be queen, and it was thrust upon her. She was locked up, and beheaded a few years later for treason when the true queen was recognized. How is this important to Harry Potters world?
Ravenclaws ghost is the Grey lady, and in the world of JK, all of her characters are *somebody* Nothing is random. The Grey lady is none other than Lady Jane Grey.

Wow I didn't know Tudor England was so popular. I did my history A level (many moons ago) on the Tudors. The main textbooks were by David Starkey and also J.J. Skarisbrick. I had to vote for Anne Boleyn (just because a hospital I used to work at had a building called the Tudor wing. The wards in it were called Aragon, Boleyn, and Cleves...guess which I worked on?.)

Oh wow... I'm doing NCEA Level 3 in English History here in NZ... we're studying this at the moment ;D, so far I am torn between Anne Boleyn... She didn't survive (actually got beheaded in the "nicest way possible" with a sword and just one stroke... ), but she was mom to Elizabeth I and quite interesting since the whole Church of England was formed because Henry VIII wanted to marry her... lol Oh, and we're watching documentaries with David Starkey as narrator... He's hilarious, ;D We call him "Eyebrow Dude" (he's got quite expressive eyebrows... lol)

don't worry you aren't that mad. i can talk for hours on the tudor history. did you see the other boylen girl? i picked Catherine. i mean face it Ann was a bitch (no offence to all lovers) but she took henery away from catherine and then her sister mary. jane was a slut. ann was a big baby. katherine was maniulative and katherine was too sweet.
my s.s teacher tried to tell me he only had 5 wives and i argued that he had 6 so i pulled it up on the computer and proved him wrong. it was so funny.
if you have seen the other boylen girl did you like the book better or the movie? and if you haven't read it i highly recomend it.

i change my vote i now pick Catherin Parr. i just read the sixth wife of king Henry the eigth and i feel really bad for her. i mean the woman was happy with her first husbad then he died then she married a man old enough to be her grandfather just to get away from Ann Boylen. then she had to marry henry cause she couldn't say no to the king. all she wanted to do was marry Tom wich she did after Henry died. but with her first child she only lived 5 days then died, her husbad wasn't even there with her. not to mention that he cheated on her with her step-daughter the princess Elizabeth. so yeah i change my answer to Cat Parr.

I voted Catherine of Aragon, because she was a very much-loved queen and she was very brave fighting the annulment like she did because she believed it was her calling. Normally, I would vote Anne Boleyn, I mean power-hungry wh.... am I allowed to say the w word?? I mean what's not to love?? But at the moment I'm writing a massive paper on how why the annulment failed so i am angry at her for making Henry want one, and by extension, making me write an essay lolz.
