yes, there is barely any Voldemort stuff in POA which struck me as odd but it all fits together nicely rather

I will never be able to decide! I'm saying either GoF or HBP. GoF because I shall always remember the feelings I had upon finishing it, what with the war with Voldy looming, the rebirth scene (which I believe to be one of the most powerful images in literature) and the complete break the book made from others in the series. It was just so much darker. HBP because, although the middle sagged horrendously, and my favourite character died, the last hundred pages had me crying my eyes out, which no book in the series had ever managed before.
OotP I've always had a love and hate relationship with. I really appreciate the complexity of it, the AD-HP angst/fluff, the political stuff, the Order and Dumbledore's army - plus of course Minerva's role - but I confess that the middle of it bored me a bit and I was disappointed in the lack of Voldy, after the drama of GoF. I also couldn't stand Harry for most of the book. (I was very relieved at the change in HBP).
... I'm going with GoF, mainly because it was the last of Jo's books to be consistent in writing quality - Ootp and HBP stand at opposite ends of the spectrum in that regard, in my opinion. Ootp was long-winded, whilst HBP seemed as though it had had all the description ruthlessly hacked from it.

I had to go with Order of the Phoenix, just for 'The Lost Prophecy' chapter. It's got my favourite line ever written by JKR, 'You care so much you feel as though you will bleed to death with the pain of it.' Oh I love that line. Poor, poor Albus feels so bad and Harry's so mean! Not without reason obviously, but still - teenage boys! And it's got the duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort. And I hate hate hate Umbridge! I love Dumbledore's army and Albus' escape. This book is the only time you really get to 'see' Dumbledore in action. Of course Minerva has some fabulous bits as well. She's just great *sighs happily* 'It unscrews the other way' I do really love the other books (though I had to put down HBP after the words 'like a great ragdoll, over the battlements and out of sight' and haven't picked it up again for a couple of weeks). I love the scenes with the mirror of erised. It's just so sad! And Dumbledore's fabulous again (can we guess who my favourite character is?). 'It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.' I adore the chapters right after Harry returns from the graveyard in GoF (which that stupid, STUPID, actor who now plays AD completely ruined!!!!! ) especially the bit where Harry understood for the first time why people called Albus the greatest wizard alive. And he shall strike down upon you with great wrath!!! woohoo. Love Dumbledore. Ok, I'll go away before I quote most of the series! lol aphelion
