Ok for the people who voted who is he. King Rupert(may he rest in peace) is Clarisse's exhusband and Mia's real granfather. He was the king before the movies and never really was in the moives just mentioned a few times.

I say Joe is way better..
but that's because he gives Clarisse true love.
Rupert (may he rest in peace) was only a companion to Clarisse..
But I guess Rupert always was good to Clarisse, that's my impression..
