I don't know how many of you regularly visit www.mugglenet.com like I do, but I find some of their content to be very interesting (as well as the news updates). Recently, I've become interested in an Editorial collumn there called The North Tower. This week, the writer started on what promises to be a two part discussion of fan fiction, particularly romance fan fic. Usually, she sticks to discussing the canon and does it from a litterary analysis point of view, it's quite interesting even if I don't always agree. True to form, she's looking at fan fic from a litterary point of view. I think she makes some pretty interesting points and I wondered if the rest of you had any thoughts about it. I'll admit to laughing openly while reading it. She mentions our ship as one of the most popular in fan fic (yay) but doesn't really discuss the characters as they're used in fan fic. I have to say that I think the vast majority of AD/MM fics I've read don't really follow what she says, in other words I think we all do a pretty good job of keeping them in character most of the time. Anyway, enough rambling from me for now. I'm not really sure where this is going, but since this is a fan fic community I thought I'd share. You can read the article here: www.mugglenet.com/editorials/thenorthtower/nt31.shtmlLet us know what you think of it when you read and I'll be staying tuned next week when she gets back to the topic.

That's an interesting article. I agree with her "formula" for romance novels, even though I don't usually read them, but I don't think all of our fanfics follow that same outline. She almost makes it seem like a bad thing and I can tell you, from working in a bookstore, that romance is one of the top selling genres, so the formula must work for something!
I agree that most of us tend to keep AD/MM both fairly in character and hardly ever change them into fanon characters. I mean Dark!Dumbledore is such a huge contrast to what he is in canon that it's hard for me to read such stories.
I'll read what she has to say next week. Thanks for the link.
