I just got the following review and wanted someone else's opinion on it: - Oh, so you say "Merry Christmas" but not "Happy Kwanzaa?!" RACIST! - I don't particularly care about the review itself (I've heard a lot worse in my time) but surely there is some sort of rule that states that personal attacks should be in PM's. I have responded to it (and I'm sorry to say I was a touch shirty) but I just wanted someone's opinion/knowledge of a rule. Cheers Minniequill P.S - Merry Christmas (sorry; couldn't resist. )

It's not Racist. More people celeberate Christamas than do Kwanzaa. It's an African Amercian holiday with the exceptoion of them most people don't have anything to do with Kwanzaa. Besides I have African Amercian friends that celebreate Christmas and Kwanzaa it just depends on your family. My family hadn't had a proper Christmas party since I was born. * I love having a Christmas bday* Igonr them most people have gotten reviews over stupid stuff like that. With my first fic "I'll Never Love Another" someone started ranting about naming Min's realtives after Greek/Roman gods they're just trying to make you mad. Don't take it personally. We all get it.

People are stupid...that person probably doesn't even celebrate Kwanzaa. I'm sorry to say that I rarely even think about that holiday and I'm more likely to say Merry Christmas or happy Hanukkah. That person is being ridiculous and I would just ignore them.

I can't say I've heard of a rule but i can't say I've read much of what we're supposed to because I can't be bothered.
Saying that, I think that this person was just trying to provoke a big review war and fight out of you, so I wouldn't worry.

It't not that I was worried; I was plain pissed off. I couldn't care less if people want to attack me, but not through reviews. And I do agree they were probably trying to start a war and my hot temper did get the better of me and I shot off a fairly scathing retort. Still, it was worth asking.

It is frustrating to get nasty things in a review because everyone will see it...esp people who are just checking to see if a story is worth reading. Fortunately, every time I've recieved a review where someone has been really rude to me about my work or the plot, other readers have shouted them down and stood up for me. I hope you have the same experience.

Well, apart from feeling rather stupid myself... I'd never even heard of Kwanzaa... I feel annoyed along with you. Ignore it; it sounds as though they were just finding a fic to pick on.

*kicks unnessicary review* Ok I celebrate Yule and I will still say merry christmas to others and accept a merry christmas. Christmas is the minority!! Gosh if we were to list everything every time we said 'seasons greetings' on something we would never stop! Some people are just offended to easily. Is that all they left in the review? So their whole review actually had nothing to do with your fic. Oh and I imagine you celebrate christmas therefore if thats what you celebrate why should you have to wish something you don't celebrate! To be forced to wish something could also been as racist.
I'm rambling. This rather annoyed me more for the fact the review actually had nothing to do with the fic and the insult of being called racist had it been me I would have been very annoyed also. *kicks annoying little reviewer*

Surely people must have better things to do with their time than start review wars. You should feel sorry for them hon.. I would have been really pissed off too, but don't rise to it, that only encourages them. Just concentrate on the hundreds of good reviews your work gets.. :-)

No-one is supposed to make personal attacks on the author, full stop. Responding was probably not a good idea but you've done it now. I've had 3 flames in my life as a fanfiction author, two attacked the story, which was hurtful, but the third attacked simply what I had in the *summary*, which was doubly hurtful as they had sent a flame without even bothering to read the fic. Ignore them next time, and depending on the site it's on, if the review is anonymous you can delete it.
I celebrate Christmas and say "Happy Christmas" because I celebrate it. I don't say "Happy Hannuka" or "Happy Kwanzaa" because I don't celebrate them (I don't know what Kwanzaa is either). Don't wish someone a happy something if you don't celebrate it yourself, there's not point. You're supposed to celebrate what you celebrate yourself, and wishing someone a happy something else is akin or close to celebrating it yourself.
Don't respond in future. Fanfiction reviews are supposed to be about the fanfiction, not ways of pretending to be offended at what you write in author's notes.
