I can't ever seem to write longer stories anymore. All of my fics recently have been about 250 words in length. What can I do to increase the length of my fics, or do you think shorter writing is okay? Thanks for your help.

Well I quite enjoy reading all of your fics long and short!!! If you want to be able to write longer stories though maybe think of a multi-chapter fic, or as I sometimes find myself doing going into vast details of and about my characters, and or look at the idea from several different person perspectives etc.
Hope this was a bit of help... prodigy

Try extending your description. I know it sonds too easy but instead of the 'the tree' making it the 'overhanging boughs of the birch tree' etc etc. Or change the perspective etc. etc. Often using synonyms of the words you already had helps as other words can then seem to natually flow (well it worked for me). Hope this helps.

Hmmm, although I can offer no help since I have the problem myself, 1000 is long for me, I can say that your writing is very good and I always enjoy it. I have always stuck with the idea that when the right idea comes along it'll work out.

I have always stuck with the idea that when the right idea comes along it'll work out. That is what I tend to do even when it comes to school related papers! Hoorah for winging it! prodigy

I used to be like that...how I wish I still was. My updating speed would be so much faster *wipes away tear*. Now I consider 3000 words too short! Urgh!

When I get a true idea, the whole story layout pops in my head, and I'm often like, "Where did that come from?!". lol It's almost like I can do nothing about the length or much else. Thanks for the compliment, EloquentPhoenix.

Yeah, it's all about the idea you get. I always get plots which are long and complicated, and find drabbles murderous to write. If you really want to write longer, daydreaming about a situation for a couple of days often ends up giving a meaty plot.

I tend to get an idea and be like 'Excellent!' then I think about it and say 'Damn, that's another 30 chapter fic. Drat!'
