Hi, all! Has anyone else tried to upload anything to ffnet in the last ten or twelve hours (it's Wednesday, April 11 -- morning on the east coast of the US)? I ask because I keep getting an error message every time I try to upload anything. It doesn't help, either, that the link that they give to support.fanfiction.net in the error message results in a "server not found" message.
Grrr. Very frustrating!

Yeah I know! I tried to upload less than an hour ago but it didn't work! I thought it was just me doing something wrong (not a whizz at the old computer) but obviously not. Looks like I will just have to try again tomorrow or maybe later on this evening.

This is where most of the truly faithful ADMM'ers are, after all! Plus some very nice people! It's very annoying that ffnet doesn't bother to post anything on their homepage when this kind of thing happens. I did send an email to "support," but I doubt very much I will hear anything back, or even if anyone will even read it!

I just tried to post at ff.net. Needless to say it didn't work. I ended up exporting a document from another fic, copying and pasting my new story there, and from then one usual process for posting a story. It's my first fore into collaboration! With my nutcase friend 'DubhCleite'. I can't post it here though...Cough*ManipulativeDumbledore*cough. What can I say? DubhCleite has some serious issues. lol

Damn it why won't it work?!
From now on I'm going to keep a document or two on there in case they do this again. Grr.

This is very frustrating, indeed. I just sent a second email to support@fanfiction.net. (I never received a response from my first email -- surprise, surprise!) It is weird, though, since it appears that some people must be able to upload -- I have seen new stories appearing when I went to check on that. And it doesn't seem regional (although I don't know where their servers are located or how things are routed), since I am on the east coast of the US and EloquentPhoenix is in England. This is really, really irksome! I second EloquentPhoenix's "grr"! FFnet's strength, that it is so large, is also its weakness. It is very impersonal -- not like the great ADMM board! (I have only had occasion to contact an admin/Headmistress once, under my former pseudonym, and the response was immediate and friendly -- and this isn't a commercial site like FFnet! Did folks see that they have hired paid translators? Is the ad revenue really that great for them? <shrugs>)

Does fanfiction.net hate us all or something?
I think I'm going to email them too. Strength in numbers and what not. I don't think we can be on the same server, as there are 3 aren't there? America, Europe and Asia. I'll be on the Europe on I would have thought.
That's what I don't like about fanfiction.net. There's no community. Well there is but it's come from here. Before I joined here I had no ADMM community. And then every time ff.net decides to bugger up like this, or over email alerts we get nothing and just have to hang around until its fixed.
Paid translators? There aren't very many ads on the pages so goodness knows how or why.
*headdesk* Right off to email them.

Damn ff.net! It't won't work for me either! *curses* I'm going to send them a really nasty e-mail....
Or maybe a wimpy one saying, 'please fix my computer, nice technical people. I love you'
Of course, it chooses the day I finally finish the next chapter for a fic I haven't updated in two months to break down. Evil, evil fanfiction.net...

I sent them a polite but cool email. And made it very clear I expected a response and for the problemt to be fixed. I'm going to send them daily until I get a response too.

Here's my third email to ffnet -- my first two emails were much shorter and to-the-point. Let me know if you think I was rude. (Or not rude enough!) Hello, again. My userid is MMADfan. I've emailed a couple times over the last two days. Thought I'd let you know that I am still unable to upload any documents. (And yes, I do know what I am doing, since I have successfully uploaded 56 previous documents -- more than that, actually, since sometimes I replace chapters with corrected versions.)
My Internet connection is fine and I am having no problems with any other site. I have tried using both Firefox and Internet Explorer. With both of them, I get the same error, which I reproduce below. It also has made no difference whether I use WordPerfect or Word. I know of other people in both the UK and the US who are having the same problem. It is not confined to just me and my computer.
Some word on what is causing it or even just that it is being looked at would be nice. I realize you are all busy people, but this is going on the third day that I have been receiving this error message. I have checked my email for responses to my previous reports, as well as checking the Fanfiction.net homepage for news about the problem, but I am just as in the dark as I was two days ago. (It is not comforting that the provided link to support.fanfiction.net doesn't lead anywhere -- it just brings up a "server not found" message.)
Here is the error message I get whenever I try to upload a document:
FanFiction.Net Error
An error has occurred while processing your request. If the problem persists, please alert site admin via support.fanfiction.net. All errors are logged for administrative and security purposes.
I look forward to hearing from you soon -- by email or an update about the situation on the homepage -- or to having a resolution even sooner. Thank you very much!

I'm going to try minniequill's trick and export an old chapter and see if I can just edit it, etc. It's very annoying not to be able to upload, though, since ffnet is the only place I post that actually retains all the italics and other formatting. <grumble grumble>

Well, the "minniequill work-around" was successful. I had figured there might have been a problem with the document manager, so I didn't think it would work to do the export-and-edit thing. But it did! Yay! It was a pain to have to go in and find all the italics, though. <still disgruntled with ffnet>

My email: To whomever it may concern, Over the past two days I have been having problems uploading documents onto fanfiction.net, in that it won't work at all. I am not the only one having this problem, as I am aware of others who are; I assume from their location, on different servers to myself but are experiencing the same problem. It is, as you would expect, rather frustrating especially as I am not aware of any problems or if said problem is being addressed. After failing to upload my document I am given a link to support.fanfiction.net, which also fails to work. The link is invalid. I'd be extremely grateful if you could look into this problem or could at least give me any feedback as to what the problem is and when it is likely to be fixed. I anticipate your response, Amy HMS Frivolity and Felines I always find that if one is perfectly polite it comes across utterly rude as they can do nothing to fault what you've said and I'm sure it winds them up. And yours was fine. Polite and to the point.

'Minniequill trick!' *cackles* Yeah, well, I may not like your ***!Dumbledore much, but I LOVED your "minniequill trick" -- even more, I liked the fact you actually did it (it had crossed my mind that I might be able to export an old chapter, but I very glumly and precipitously presumed it wouldn't work -- you went ahead and tried it!). -MMADfan <happy that her mammoth chapter is posted now, but still ticked off at ffnet>

It's still not working right, and there's still no word from them on what the problem is, not even an announcement on the homepage.
You know what irks me? Although they are providing us a service -- a place to post our stories -- ffnet itself wouldn't exist without the free labor and stories that the fanfic authors provide them, or the readers who want to read the fics. A little bit of mutual respect would be nice -- it certainly doesn't appear that ffnet respects their users!

Argh!!!
Just thought I'd put in my two cents...when I crossed my fingers and tried to upload something a few minutes ago it said there was an error, but then I couldn't even access the support site to complain!
The email alert thing happens all the time, but this is new and utterly frustrating.

ARGH!!! Ffs. What did we do to deserve this? I bloody hate ff.net for this reason. I do not like being ignored. This is my second and hopefully much more blunt and slightly rude email.
To whomever it may concern,
I emailed you yesterday concerning this problem but I have since received no reply. Others and I have been unable to upload documents and we are still completely in the dark over this problem. No one I am acquainted with has had any reply to an email and nothing is shown on the main page of fanfiction.net. Documents will simply not upload and the link to support.fanfiction.net given is invalid.
At the risk of repeating myself I would very much appreciate some feedback on this problem, and of course for it to be recognised and sorted as quickly as is possible.
I hope that you are aware of said problem and I still anticipate your response.

I just have to vent -- ffnet is still not working, and there is still no word that they are even aware of the problem and are doing anything to fix it. For those of you who want to try the export-and-edit trick but have never exported in ffnet before, here is the procedure: - Click on "Stories" on your account page;
- On whatever story you like, (it doesn't matter what one it is) click the "edit" link, just as if you were about to add a chapter;
- Click the "content/chapters" link;
- Select a random chapter and click the third link that says "exp" -- it's in the "export" column (!);
- At the top of your page, you will now see a new link to your exported document; it will be called something like "Export: chapter name Ch:#" -- click on it.
- You will now find yourself in the document editor; delete the content of the chapter and replace it with the new content, then upload it as usual.
It's pitiful that a) ffnet can't respond to our inquiries about the upload problem, and b) they can't send out directions to everyone on how to do this export-and-edit in the meantime. <shakes head> Good thing we have a community over here!
