One of my friends told me about a story on ff.net thats VERY similar to mine. Basically the whole idea and beginning. It's very similar to my story "Mummy's Boy" I'm almost positive that the author ripped it off of my fic since the beginning's very similar to my fics beginning. I know I had the fic first because I posted my story almost a month before the author did. Can someone please help me? I'm getting very annoyed about it and if the author's a member of this site, I'd like to discuss this. Ok, now that is a complete rip off of your fic. Have you checked the 'report this story' thing to see if its against ff.net rules?

Oooh, you've got to be careful with this one.
It is entirely possible that they had the same idea as you. I know from experience that my friends and I have come up with similar ideas without consulting each other, but if it's really peeving you off (which it obviously is) then why don't you contact the author and send them a PM?
One of my stories was supposedly copied, and whilst I was p***ed off initially, I got over it fairly quickly.
Failing that, report the story, and leave it up to fanfiction.net. Normally they're pretty good (someone copied one of my friend's stories, and she chucked a fit and it was removed (account and all) within a fortnight.
And you can think of it as a compliment. They obviously think highly of your work if they've copied it.

I read the first chapter and the first chapter of yours. I think from reading the two it's entirely possible you had the same idea, it's a not a word for word copy.
But you know what happens in the rest of the story etc, if it's more similar and more copying of yours then do something, PM him/her or throw a fit like minniequill's friends.
Edit: I just realised it only has one chapter. Oops.

That story is very similar to yours. You might want to wait for the next chapter before you make it definite, and if it's still so much alike, report it to ff.net. But remember, imitation is the highest form of flattery, so they obviously liked your work.

Well, I've just read that, and I have to say, it is very much like your 'mummy's boy' fic. However, I think it's a very out-of-character thing for that author to do - I've read her other stories and they all have fair grammar, punctuation and plot, whereas this one 'Mum's the Word' has bad puntuation and spelling.
I'm just wondering if something strange is happening ... you don't think she let someone else use her profile to put the story up and had never heard of your story 'Mummy's Boy' do you? It's just really weird.

That seems really similar. A few of the lines are obviously pilfered from you fic ("nothing I haven't seen before").
I think that you have grounds report it. If the general idea alone was similar, maybe not. But as far as I can tell, she's coping specific lines and such, so I'd say go ahead and say something.
