FIRST: no-one is allowed to pinch my idea. I thought of it first and I shall come down hard on anyone who does so, especially the dragon part, as I'm planning on using a variation on the theme in a novel.
OK, this is my plot. It's definitely an original idea for an HP fanfic, but I think one aspect of it is too similar to other fiction out there.
Right, so, there's a princess, her older brother, the guy her family want her to marry, and the guy her family *don't* want her to marry that she's in love with. Why? Simple. He's a wizard. She, on the other hand, is princess of a race of non-humans (no, not vampires; a race I invented myself). She marries the one they want her to marry, but then a few months later the three members of the love triangle vanish. Her older brother is pleased, because he is now the sole heir to the throne.
Unfortunately, the princess happens to be Lily Evans, her new husband James Potter, and her wizard lover Severus Snape. They vanish off the face of the earth because the latter informs them that Voldemort's after them, so they go into hiding.
Now, the King and Queen have passed on (I think - I may make the evil brother have them thrown into prison or something), and so the evil brother is now King. He's happy. Until one of his subjects informs him that, while Lily is now dead, she has a son still living who could challenge him for the throne.
The evil brother bumping off (or trying to) his relatives so he gets the throne is really very cliched, right? But, because it's not exactly a common plot in the context of Harry Potter fan fiction, do you think I could get away with it? It's very HPff-esque - told from Harry's point of view, an AU to PoA upwards, and a Severitus on top of that. So, what do people think?
This mysterious race are kind of like part-dragon, part-humans. They have human intelligence, look mostly human, but are partly scaled, can breathe fire, and create illusions. I have worked a variation of these human-dragons into another HP ff and want to use another in a novel as well, so HANDS OFF.
